xlr8r got a reaction from Tua PR in XR500 disconnecting
is it rebooting or disconnecting the internet only ?
i have a post related to internet disconnects and found that by disabling Smart Connect, my disconnects dropped from daily to every 3-4 days...
seems there are alot of us now with this problem Fraser..

5 months later... i have yet to have a "sensible" reply from Netgear....

they just kept asking for answers to stupid questions like , whats my IP and whats my firmware version, nad can i upload pictures of teh problem ? wtf Netgear

ultimately, there was nobody at Netgear with a level of intelligence , able to deal with the question I was asking....

hence why I never bother asking them for anything anymore.....

stay on top of watching your logs every few hours though, as they only stay visible on the router for around a day ...
if you miss it in the logs you can always look at ; Connection Time, from that , you can deduce when it last disconnected from Internet
the Time shown is in DD:HH:MM:SS

Are they really? I feel like we have heard that story for a LOOONG time now. I feel pretty convinced Netgear has moved on from this router and all we are getting at this point is smoke and mirrors. Netduma may be still invested, but what good is a new OS if we can't fix actual problems?

    [UPDATE]
New XR500 router arrived Friday (brand new replacement sent by Netgear).
Setup from scratch and has been running sweet for 2 days....until this happened....!!

So.... clearly the conclusion is, this is NOT a Hardware or Netgear issue, this is CLEARLY a DumaOS software issue!!!
result : Brand New XR500 now listed on eBay....

Probably the smartest choice. We'll be on entirely new standards (and many revisions later) before they patch bugs with this router.

Right... i've thrown the towel in and RMA'd this paperweight router.
nice of Netgear to charge me £20 for the honor of sending mine back....!
will sell the new one they send on eBay and put "the pennies" I make off it,  towards a "decent" router....

    thanks
ill keep updating my original post with each disconnect. I've ruled out it being anything to do with the modem as i replaced it, and same things happens.

nice one, i completely misread a table indicating the DM200 as being Broadcom when indeed , it is not, cheers ....
are there no Broadcom "Pure" modems out there other than the HG612....?
or what modem/router combo is best to use ? (just to use in bridge mode) . i.e. Zyxel VMG8924  ?

Would there be any advantage at all going from a HG612 (unlocked) to a Zyxel VMG8924 ?

yeah firmware check was first thing i did (latest BT one was already on there).
checking the speed on the modem GUI was the second thing, 74 Down, 13 Up.
I know my cabinet is a Huawei and my old modem, an Openreach HG612 (unlocked) is also Huawei chipset, I was getting about 9Mbps extra from it.
So maybe moving to the Draytek was a bad idea after all...
After several factory resets on the XR500, im now getting a steady 53Mbps Down and 11Mbps Up reported by the router.....  thats still 13Mbps of a drop from using the old HG612 Openreach Modem.
Think i will just switch back to the Huawei... despite its age (performance is everything.... so my wife says ? LOL!)

@xlr8r We've contacted Netgear about this, and they have requested some extra debug information. I've written some instructions below, if you could follow them and send us the debug data, that would be awesome.
Go to routerlogin.net/debug.htm If required, enter the usual username and password for your router (may have to enter address again after login) Tick the box that says "Debug Log Capture when bootup" Tick the box that says "Enable LAN/WAN Packet Capture" and press Start Capture Now the next time the issue occurs, after you've reconnected to the internet, go back to routerlogin.net/debug.htm Click the Save Debug Log button and send it to us Thanks for helping us to get this sorted!

    would be a great feature...
im sure there are lots of people out there like myself who would like to be able to access their router via www and use it to wake sleeping computers (or any device for that matter) on the network for remote access. rather than having to leave it on constantly....
i really miss it from my old R7000 running custom DD-WRT firmware... Even the DD-WRT App had this feature which was absolutely brilliant!

    Daily Internet Disconnections - fix
okay so.... I hope i haven't "jumped the gun" on this but I have had no Internet disconnections since Saturday after i unticked this box ......!
I know its only two (almost 3 full) days later
but given that the XR500 was losing internet connections at least once per day, this is looking quite positive!
I would ask anyone who is having daily Internet disconnections to try this just so see what happens, it may or may not work for you but seems to for me, at least for now.....
LOL! - to quote myself from an earlier post.... "the more boxes that are ticked on this router, the more it wants to fail"......!!  Seems I was right....

yep, Alex hit it on the head.... any firmware previous to .56 resulted in the time being set incorrectly ..
i constantly had this problem , that anytime the router was restarted, it always had the wrong time and the schedules seemed to be not working. They were , but just not at the times you expected....lol
.56 firmware seems to have remedied the Time glitch with the addition of the new NTP settings (Under Administration Settings)
Personally, i would prefer the NTP settings to be under Content Filtering menu....

I'm at the end of my tether with this router!!
Keeps dropping internet connection......and yes on the latest firmware.
Keeps putting me onto servers/peers that have already been denied.....the whole point of this thing.
And support from netgear and here netduma is trying at best....
Its not like this router was cheap and nasty......it was a premium price and I only got it because the R1 was so good.
Time for a re-think on routers, as this one has been 90% grief and 10% great and when its great it is great, sadly too much the other way

xlr8r got a reaction from Netduma Alex in LAN device (modem) shows up in Device list even though it is outside IP range ?
well. it wasnt visible on .24 hotfix firmware, only since upgrading does it now appear.
i also see another device that wasnt previously visible that is outside the ip range...?
no biggie i suppose, i would just prefer the devices NOT to be visible since they are outside the IP ranges set .

So Dynamic IP addresses from the ISP are causing the XR500 to crash and static ones dont? The mind boggles at how that happens, I guess its under a certain set of parameters that many users don't use, otherwise Netgear would be having a tidal wave on their hands with this.

so far the only stable version has been .40 hotfix. And since this only seems to be a cosmetic issue, i dont want to "rock the boat" too much with firmware updating...
for now ill just leave it for now.... maybe milestone 3 will sort it all out lol

Killhippie you're the one trying to pick holes in my comments in this thread I'm not sure why but on numerous occasions I'm having to explain myself to you and and I shouldn't have to.
I paid for this router with my own cash and I expected the features on it to work as advertised and since day one of my purchase, which was just after the release date  I have been sat waiting patiently for them problems to be fixed and still to this day we still have the same problems with no end in sight its absurd.
Sorry if I offended anyone in this thread/website it is not my intention Im just feeling a bit fed up of the whole thing its gone on far to long
