Hi Everyone, We hope you and your families are keeping safe. The virus is going to be a challenge for everybody, but at Netduma we are doing everything we can to power through it. Some of us are now working from home, but we will not let it slow us down in delivering DumaOS 3.0 to you. After all, the quality of your online gaming & home network is an even higher priority than before! We will also be keeping all our support channels open as usual in case you're having any problems. The whole team is safe and we hope you are as well. The Netduma Team

Pingplotter is ICMP ping and games like battlefield measure their loss on UDP packets. When there is traffic congestion across your ISP etc, UDP packets are the first ones to get dropped. Because UDP packets do not get resend while TCP/IP does. So that could explain why pingplotter is fine and your UDP traffic isn't.

    XR500 Setup Advice (new owner)

Hey, welcome to the forum! As Zippy said switch NAT to Open in WAN Settings to prevent any NAT issues with your consoles. For WiFi I would suggest you use a WiFi analyzer - you can download one on your phone - and find the least congested channels in your area and then switch to that for 5GHz - leave 2.4GHz on auto. Make sure you disable Smart Connect to do this. The disconnect may have been a one off hopefully but as suggested hold the reset button in the back of the router down for 25 seconds and release then wait 1 minute before accessing the router again to setup. Also I would recommend you follow our optimal settings guides to ensure you set it up correctly and understand how the router works. http://support.netduma.com/en/support/solutions/folders/16000090646 It will only enter recovery mode for use with TFTP if you hold the reset button before you turn on the router, if you hold it down for longer when it is already on then this just ensures it factory resets correctly.

The Future of DumaOS: Version 3.0 Last year we released our first major update for DumaOS, Milestone 1.3. You guys loved it, so we quickly got to work on the next milestone, packing it full of features to make your router even more powerful. This next milestone will instead be a new version, DumaOS 3.0, and it marks the biggest leap forward in our history. It will contain a huge amount of features never seen before on a router. Instead of just sending out each of the features piece by piece, we needed to wrap them all up into one giant release. We will explain why soon 😉 (but don't worry, we're not doing an EA!). We know you guys will want to get your hands on 3.0 as soon as possible and we are working very hard to make this happen. But until we are sure, the release date is ‘to be confirmed’. But in the meantime, here is a teaser one of the many features coming to your router in 3.0: Data History. With Data History you can see how much bandwidth you’ve used over time and drill-down to see which devices and/or applications are eating up all your data or find out how many hours you spent gaming over the weekend. If you are under a data cap, you can also see if you are nearing your monthly limit. This is just a small glimpse into 3.0. We will be gradually revealing more features over the next few weeks so keep an eye out for more announcements. One final thing, we launched DumaOS Insiders yesterday. This will be a private subforum where we share first-looks at features we are currently working on and using your feedback to shape them. There are only a few spaces left, so sign up here if you haven’t already: https://forum.netduma.com/topic/29480-sign-up-to-dumaos-insiders/ Big things are coming. Thank you for your support. XR500 Network Dropping

I've just read through this thread I think you really need to push for a product replacement or your money back. You've already wasted enough of your time.

There isn't a scheduled reboot feature in modern Netgear routers as far as I know, although I could be wrong, my R7800 and RAX120 dont have that feature in the settings at all. The old prossafe/prosecure models don't even have that from what I can find online either.

CoD is broken. It dosn’t have anything with skills to do. Without connection on your side your pointless. The Game plays diffrent on what settings you play with and who you play with. Playing solo strict played well on my older router then my newer ones. Playing party is random depend on who you play with and what settings they are using. Hit detection is going to change if your mate changes his QOS settings next game. (Its true I tried it today) And yes game is really random and these youtubers have the ”right” settings and ofc they are good but without the right settings even I’am pointless. It’s nothing wrong with our connections, its the game own ”lag comp” bullshit. Broken game.

It wouldn't actually surprise me if the bigger YT streamers have SBMM turned off in their matchmaking. Makes more and more sense to me, since a lot of them get paid to stream like now when a new game releases.

    xr500 dropping internet

Hopefully Fraser this is something Netgear and DumaOS 3.0 will fix together as a whole. I cant blame the Op for being upset and very disappointed. It comes down to how much time one has to fiddle with this router that really starts to eat at ones nerves. And its not like there a cheap router. Even if it was a cheap router it should handle basic DHCP work. Its a shame to see this really. Im surprised that Netgear hasn't been quicker at a fix for this. And its a shame to see new people come to the forum with the same issue. One thing to note also is in the Op's logs his DNS servers are being tagged as some sort of DoS Attack TCP/UDP Echo. Makes me wonder if that also is adding to his issues. Its clearly not normal to see his DNS servers in the logs like that. and He might be able to add a port forwarding rule to help clear that from the logs. And who knows it might help keep his router to be a bit more stable.. Even if this isn't and issue it makes me wonder if there is filtering being done on his DNS servers. Ive also tried this awhile back what I believe you have mentioned also Fraser at disabling DHCP once one has there Ips reserved for all devices. And once one loses connection sometimes a simple power cycling of just the router tends to get it back online. But even that im sure varies per user and type of setup one has. Hopefully the Op hangs around! 👍 Zippy.

    Gaming spikes

Yes I'm 100% certain nothing was being used during this time as I was asleep. I've actually ordered a modem from ebay, apparently it seems to help people's problem as its g fast compatible. Will report back next week when it arrives.

You talk about COD right??No fix for a garbage game.
  21. 2 points
I've now owned the XR500 for 1.5 years and to this day: No IPv6 without killing off the QOS. No USB printer support. Incorrect network activity stats. No control over VPN settings. Bugs and glitches in the management GUI. Very questionable QOS performance is some games. Very poor update support. At this point this product should be considered as abandonware. Netduma's/Netgear's lack for transparency with such a vocal community is truly disturbing. There are other manufacturers with devices out there that have a much more active support than Netgear/Netduma and according to my preliminary research, as good, if not better implementations of QOS and AQM. I am no longer actively using this router and will soon be totally replacing it. Hats off to those of you who will be sticking around for the long haul, still beta testing a 2 year old AC router.
  22. 2 points
if you haven't figured it out from my previous reply. the router sometimes stops permitting internet traffic to the devices on the network, access to the router is still there but no internet. the issue resolves as soon as the router has been rebooted.

    Still no update???...

Hopefully this is fixed in DumaOS 3.0...

    xr500 dropping internet

so like an idiot I went and a bought 3rd XR500..... brand new router in less than a month it did the same internet cut off even it showed it was receiving internet twice. now I am starting to see again the same issues (sawtooth pattern in pingplotter like if it was congestion, inconsistent speeds, high jitter, higher ping) which I thought was my ISP but after running a test it is not my ISP. I ran a test as soon as I saw this happening I unhooked the PCs ethernet cable going to the router and plugged it into the ONT box (without resseting the ONT box) and ran a test on ookla speedtest and pingplotter. I didnt get no sawtooth pattern on pingplotter it was actually running normal. I ran some test on ookla speedtest and speed were pretty consistent jitter was always between 0.30-0.70 and ping remain a 1ms-2ms. I turned the router back on plugged the PC ethernet back into the router and what did I get? sawtooth patterns on pingplotter, inconsistent speeds in ookla with a jitter of 2.38 and a ping of 5ms-7ms. (I know it is not much but I am having issues when I play online for that I return the router which costs $300 for that I buy a $100 regular router or an ASUS which I really think about doing) so the issue is not a broken router or defective router if thats the case then you guys are sending out broken routers even when we calling and exchange them. the issue is an EXTREMELY buggy and broken .56 firmware. is there a firmware that is working properly? I know .32 is compromised on the XR500 sooooo I mean when is this new firmware coming? some dont have the time trying to figure what will work, some of us have to work from home and since the virus most of us have to work from home. do we have to file a complaint so that NETGEAR can send out the update?

I am new to the forum but I have had my XR500 for a few months. I was guessing they would have new firmware/updates out soon. I kept checking and didn't see anything and then stumbled on this thread. I wish I would have seen this before my purchase because I would have kept my business with Asus. Being in IT and having a project without a projected completion date must be nice. I am a little disappointed in the responses we see from Netduma.

Even though they're in your filter, if you add them to your allow list can you then hear them or do you have to allow that server in the US to hear them?

That is expected, if people are having wireless issues I generally advise them to move any wireless devices like headphones (in this case a mouse) etc about 3 feet away from the router as it can interfere with the WiFi and vice versa. There isn't a fix for it really as it is normal behaviour - they both use the 2.4GHz band which is why they can clash. Your WiFi can even be affected if there is a microwave being used too close to the router as well!

    Wifi Range extender

Prioritize the console, depending on the extender it shouldn't actually show on the device manager.
  32. 1 point
As above, it's quite unlikely to be the cause but disable Steam and see. Also test direct to the ISP router as well to see if it is getting drops at the same time.

    XR500 wifi boost

You might get better range by turning off SmartConnect, and then turning off the 5 GHz channel. Forcing your devices to use the 2.4 GHz channel will improve range compared to the 5 GHz channel but will decrease speed a bit

    Iperf test on XR500

I want to test for UDP jitter/packet loss as FIFA and NHL keep lagging and I want to make sure there is nothing within firewall/settings in XR500 dropping packets. ICMP tests are fine, but they seem fine even with the Virgin HUB which is bad anyway.

    I give up

The biggest issue with anti recoil scripts is the aiming inconsistency. Say you have XY anti recoil. You fire, it applied 20% vertical and 10% horizontal when you are firing. Your targets are usually moving. So now, when you fire, and want to correct to the left, say 20% stick, you need to apply 30% stick instead of the 20% stick you normally use. Same for vertical. If you need to adjust down, say 20%, you need to apply 40%. Also there is a amount of randomness in the kick after firing a bullet. So the bullets will never go through one hole so to say, you just get a small group instead of a vertical line up. Not accurate enough to shoot somebody cross map, if you fire a whole magazine you would kill them eventually though.
