Signature not accepting images

Just wondering why my Signature won't accept any url as an image unless the extension is included?

 

I clicked on Image and entered this http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/1974259 

but the image was invalid.

 

I had to add the extension .png

to the end of the url to get it to work. 

So now my signature looks like this http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/1974259.png

and works. 

 

I don't remember ever having to do that in any post.
