First day with Netduma and not really impressed :(

Recommended Posts

Hi, so I mostly bought the Netduma with the hopes that id be able to get some smooth games going for a software called Fightcade using technology otherwise known as GGPO on my pc. It is mainly for fighting games such as street fighter.

The requirements for GGPO/Fightcade upload is pretty negligent, something around 2KB I believe, so the only issue is latency.

What I am noticing is players whom show as below 100 ping (ping from the fightcade software) will still lag. The netduma doesnt recognize the Fightcade games so I cant really investigate further (e.g. a trace route or ping further).

This is most noticable when other people use the net, even though I allocate my pc to be prioritized (tried various numbers, even allocation 100 percent) I still lag. Download and upload are capped at 90%. Enable deep packet processing is also disabled.

So what am I doing wrong? Is this router only really designed for fps players in mind?

Hi VHD, welcome to the forum :)

There are a couple of things you can try. First of all try choosing your PC as a device on the GeoFilter and select Xbox live as a service. Then see if the game shows up on the GeoFilter.

Next, make sure the sliders in congestion control are set to 70% - this means when other people use your internet connection you won't lag.

the netduma isnt going to give you god mode you still have to be good at whatever online game your playing. the purpose is to find you more local matches online and a better ping.

Sorry for the delayed response, I dont get much time to play (hence why its especially annoying to see lag when I do get a chance) and test out some of the suggestions.

Hi there, thanks for the tip. It does show up in the geofilter and I can see (assuming) players on it. I have it set to 70% now, slightly better, but no way can this be prioritizing my net over the others in the way I expected. I still experience a slight when others are using the net. I guess I expected too much from the device.

How obnoxious, what is the purpose of your response? Are you simply trolling to get a rise? I made no mention of skill and dont see how that is relevant.

Hey VHD, make sure you get set up by following http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=fine_tune_netdumaand then I would recommend trying what Crossy has suggested

Thanks, ill go through that now.

Oh yes, and monitoring the network I can see it exceeds the 70% so whats up with that? I feel this may be related to the crux of the issue

Have you entered your bandwidth from a speed test results from say speedtest.net in to the set bandwidth tab?

And could you run the internet diagnosics from the duma screen shot and post the results please

I cant run the test right now as the housemates are all streaming and wont be too pleased with me disabling the net, I will get it soon.

In the meantime however, how comes the network monitor is showing regularly (about once a second) peaking above 90%. Isnt the netduma supposed to prevent it from reaching that level if I set it to 70%?

im grown i dont have time to troll. you have to do your own testing to find out what works for you. like i said the whole purpose of the router is to find better online games with better pings lag shouldnt be a issue when you are playing people in your region
