Netduma honest review.

Recommended Posts

I have had the netduma for about 3 months now and I am ready to give this product a review. This review will contain 3 sections: First of all, the effects that this router had on my gaming experience. Secondly the product itself (durability, ease of use, setup, etc). And lastly the customer support.

When I bought this router the only thing I was concerned about was: Would it work in my particular situation? Sure it works for all these guys on YouTube, but will it work for me? Well, after months of using this router, I have come to a conclusion, IT WORKS.

I have had trouble with my internet connection for years and after throwing everything in the book at my network desperately trying to fix it I finally gave up. I just started dealing with always being at a disadvantage. This did not work out so well. After a while I just quit gaming online, until I had seen Sim's videos on YouTube. This guy swore by this product, and he seemed to really know what he was doing. I was of course in serious doubt, I had at that point come to the conclusion that nothing could fix my lag problems. That I would literally have to move to LA and get a whole new isp in order to fix my issues. Well, after seeing in Sim's videos that I could see my hosts with the NetDuma, and that I could see my ping,  I decided to buy the router. Just because I thought that if I could at least see where my hosts were, and see my ping that I would have a chance at fixing my network once and for all. Shipping times and packaging were excellent, these guys are top grade. When I got the router I spent some time setting the router up, getting all of the optimal settings going for me, and exploring the product's wiki.  When I finally got a chance to sit down and play I was surprised at how different everything felt. This sounds weird, but after playing with lag for so many years, playing with no lag actually was a huge adjustment!! :) Since then I have had some on and off experiences with the NetDuma, but I don't think that it is its' fault. Some of the games I play have a very low player count (such as crysis 3 and cod world at war) and advanced warfare has its own network issues. Anyways my kdr has risen naturally, and I find that I can finally relax while playing COD. The game has simply become much easier to play with this router. Other games such as modern warfare 3 and ghosts work like an absolute dream. Hit detection is so spot on, that I sometimes feel as if I am playing LAN. Ghosts + the NetDuma R1: is amazing!!!!! Overall, I think that if one sets up this NetDuma correctly, then he will have an awesome experience while gaming. If you are suffering from consistent lag that you cannot fix, then this router is worth it to you!!  I was at first skeptical if this could really change my gaming experience, but I am now very glad that I bought it. The two most compelling things about this router are that you finally get to be in control of who you connect with, and that you can now unplug your congested network using the congestion control settings. Also, this router is built for gaming. It automatically prioritizes traffic on specified gaming consoles, it has a network monitor, and it has every setting you could possibly want right there with an easy click of a button. This router helped me pinpoint where my lag was coming from. I could finally see where my hosts were, how much bandwidth my devices were using, what my ping was to a server. You cant get this kind of software from anywhere else! The software on this router is absolutely positively the most advanced technology available, and there is no doubt in my mind that the NetDuma R1 has the capability to help any gamer, no matter where you live, no matter how much you play, and no matter how good you are.

Now, on to the setup, ease of use, and durability of this router. When you first get this NetDuma, I am not going to lie, you are going to need some time on your hands. Because it takes some time to set up and get used to. One thing to note though is that even if you unplug or reboot your router it saves the settings. This is one thing I really like about this router. You never have to go back and set it all up again. I spent a ton of time my first day testing and trying all sorts of different settings. Once you find your optimal settings you are golden.

Now as for ease of use; this router is very easy to navigate. All of the settings are easy to find. There are quick links and there are even support and wiki links so that if you have a question about some setting you can get it answered. After getting used to this router and really getting to know it, there is only one thing in this category that I must mention because this is an honest review after all. I don't like having to constantly have my computer ready for when I am gaming. Every time I go online to game, I have to adjust my congestion control settings, and I need to set up my geofilter properly so that I can find good games. Every time I finish gaming, I have to reset my congestion control settings again. This is a bit of a hassle, but there is no other way around it. If you want to play games online whilst others in your house are downloading web pages constantly with no ping issues, you will need your PC at the ready! Another hassle involves visitors in your house. Lets say your wife has a bunch of her girlfriends over for a baby shower, and you just want to sit in your man cave and play video games all day. Well, in my case, they always auto-connect to my ISP provided router, and this causes issues. And let me be very clear, you will have no protection from network congestion unless the device causing it is connected to your net duma. Now, I could just lock them out of my internet, but then they ask my WiFi passcode. Ugh... But this is just a minor hassle that only happens to me very occasionally. It will obviously be different for everybody. Sometimes I just give people my NetDuma WiFi password.

As for the durability of this router, as long as you determine if you need the WiFi work around setting ticked or not, you should not have any issues with losing connection to your router over wifi. For a couple of days I couldn't figure out why my iPhone would randomly disconnect from my NetDuma. Well all I had to do was tick a setting and that issue was quickly fixed. :)

Now, I need to mention one quick little thing about the customer support before I finish this honest review. THE SUPPORT ON THIS SITE IS FANTASTIC!!!! It doesn't get ANY BETTER than this. They are quick, clear, and VERY helpful. That's all you need to know. These guys are awesome and they deserve great respect from anyone they have helped. This product is known for its 5 star customer assistance.

And that is all, I want to thank you for reading this and I hope I helped someone out there make a decision about whether or not they should buy this router. Thanks all. And thanks especially to the guys over at NetDuma, because had they not made such an impact on me with their great customer support, I don't know if I would have taken the time to write this. Thank you very much to Crossy, Netduma Fraser, Zennon, Lucas, and Iain; and everyone else that I am forgetting! You guys literally changed my life. :)

Great review and very detailed.  They are working on an app, so you can use it from your phone without having to use your computer.  Why not disable wifi on ISP provided router and have them connect to the Netduma wifi?  This way the congestion control will work with them too.

This site is great.

Thread about the Netduma App.

Awesome review man. Question, couldn't you just connect your NETDUMA for your cable modem, Connect your console(s) to the NETDUMA, then connect your router to the Duma and have all the other wired and wireless connections to the router and adjust the congestion that way?

Nice review. I bought this thing a year ago, and had to go thru the trials and tribulations everyone else has and will have to. Once you learn how this thing works [for the most], it's a beast. How did we ever game without it? We raged, that's what we did! I still rage now, but only because campers. Big up Simjc74 as well. That guy helped me get thru it well before the R1 was around!

Nice review. I remember when i used this router for the first time it didn't make any huge difference but i knew that i was doing something wrong and once i found the optimal settings for my region this router started doing its job and hit detection was on point. I know some of you will feel like you wasted your money at first but don't give up, play around with the router settings and you will find the one that works best for your region. Btw i use ping assist exclusively as it works best for me.
