Alas, the tales of Duma Members and the BO3 Beta across multiple platforms are coming to an end, good sirs :)

The game itself is more fun than AW (not a hard feat to achieve) and while still steeped in future shit, it's a lot closer to what CoD is at it's core regardless, of the Specialist abilities, etc.

The main thing killing it is the horrendous netcode for some.

The PC version will be interesting to follow because they warn PC users it is NOT optimized and there are tons of advanced graphical features not yet enabled. So, it very well may end up being the best version after all, but if the population isn't there and/or the cheaters run everybody away, it won't matter, unfortunately.

The PS4 played OK, for me. Not great, but not terrible, either.

The XB1, on the other hand, was completely unplayable, for me. Good thing I didn't pre-order it on XB1, huh?

I really don't like the specialists. It's cheap "killstreak" stuff that just annoys more than anything. Game would be much better without it.

The only two they should remove from the game entirely are "Rejack" and "Glitch". Those are perks that negate a person's kill and often times let the person using them get the kill they normally wouldn't have without it. It takes skill... What little there is... From CoD and basically says it doesn't mean a damn thing.

The other specialists aren't that OP, IMO, and I like the offensive ones like the Sparrow, and Annihilator because if you miss, that's it. You have to wait until they build back up again.

I didn't have any concerns with the Specialist Abilities as they played out.  I don't get the hate Re-Jack got, but I wasn't playing Dom or Hardpoint either.  In basic TDM and Kill Confirmed, I didn't have a problem with it, I just kept shooting at the green cloud and got my kills if I could.

Sparrow and Annihilator and that Electrical Lightning gun the Glitch guy has have no defense, although the hit box is pretty tight and concise.  I missed an Annihilator kill yesterday while playing by less than an inch of screen, and I felt that was fair.  It's easy to earn them and they kill in one shot, from anywhere, seemingly.  I didn't think it was a problem, but a guy laying there with a puff of green smoke that gets back up and can be shot at any time is OP?

Re-Jack and Glitch got Nerfed, they nerfed the M8 and Razorback, meanwhile I have a better chance of getting a kill with the Rolling Thunder or The Dart (Worst. Streak. Ever.) if I just throw the shiny indicator at them and hope.

I played all afternoon and loved it, yes they could modify some of the specialist stuff (I don't like it at all) but the kiddies love it and this is the growing market for them so we will have to live with it and I suspect more in the future.

In summary:

  • Maps - for the most part on the small and a lot of up and down channels.  Hope the additional maps are a bit bigger - I will risk more campers!
  • Graphics - although at first I didn't think they were sharp enough they grew on me.  I don't know if there were any mods or not but seemed to get better after Friday.
  • Paint shop - I enjoyed playing around but found it frustrating when I got one done and it would be there for a couple of games and then disappear.  To get it back I had to exit the game and re-enter and they were back.
    • It would be cool if when you get one side done you could copy it to paste on the other side (perhaps with a flip)
  • Guns - once the Razorback and M8A7 were nerfed they were great.  I used the Raz and KR7 (I know that's wrong but you know what I mean). Once you got your full complement of gear you could really make them into beasts.  I just starting using the M8A7 and liked it.  Hoping to play a bit tonight and see what I think.  Played around with some others but not really impressed.
  • Specialists - I got up to Nomad and my favourite tools were War Machine and Rejack.  Like I said I am not crazy about them but they are there so I better use them.  The one with armour is not that great I got several kills on them with the War Machine and Head Shots.  I hate that "lighting bolt gun - I got hit several times because I was too close to a teammate.

All in all I am favourably impressed and look forward to the launch in two months.  In the meantime back to more frustration with AW!

PS notice the Canadian spellings with the "u" in words like favourabley and armour: no they are not spelled incorrectly they are spelled the proper way! So there... ;)

AW is a finished game vs. a beta (or small slice of the finished game).

Even so, AW is fundamentally broken on multiple levels. Not just the in-engine latecny, or hit detection (netcode), but when only two, or three guns are "must use" not because they are better, but because every other gun in the game is under-powered and shit, you know there is something wrong with the game and those making it. Add in the fact they promote kill whoring even in objective modes via the scoring system, and I will steer very clear of SHG in the future.

I was primarily talking about the gameplay. Comparing the campy gameplay I saw in the beta vs the ultra fast gameplay I experience in grapple mosh pit I was a little disheartened.

Campers are usually easy pickings, but not so much when you have poor hit detection and inaccurate lag comp.

I did experience slightly better gameplay and a far better connection in the morning. For some odd reason I experienced the same with blops2.

Well I stayed in until 10:30 EST; I had planned on staying 'til the end however in the past hour game after game had increasing lag.  I had a great time and surprised my self with how well I did in such a short time compared to AW.  I got AW as soon as it came out and today I am only a .68 k/d; in BO3 I got up to .65.  Now I realize this is only the beta and it probably will play harder in the final version but I felt like things were better balanced and the play was smoother.  Now have to realize that I only added my Duma in the last month and it started to make a difference in AW so this might be an unfair comparison.

Having said that I like the game and look forward to the release.

Have a good night everyone!

Nuketown... Now I know 3arc is the gayest developer of the bunch. People need to get a grip, that map is more worn out than a $2 whore.

2016...

I really can't get with this direction CoD has gone. It is incredibly disappointing. Maybe IW will save it for me next year.

Not like I have been doing poorly, today was 2.5+kdr with a 450+spm. That's against k/m players with a controller.

Every CoD has had a small map players gravitate to e.g. Rust, Urban, Showtime, etc.

These maps give players the chance to just goof off because how absurd is it cramming 12-18 players in a small area and letting them kill one another?

It also harks back the roots of FPS games like Doom, and Unreal where hardware and processing power was in its infancy.

I look forward to BO3 Nuketown because it is going to have to be bigger to accommodate wall running, etc.

Now I realize this is only the beta and it probably will play harder in the final version but I felt like things were better balanced and the play was smoother.

BO3 is night and day compared to AW.

AW is just a cluster fuck of people going every which way whereas BO3 not only has lanes... AW does too... But players are restricted to those lanes and can't just appear from anywhere. It makes sense. I know where to line up for a "First Blood" kill when starting Evac, for example. You can't do that in AW because everybody just criss-crosses the lanes because of the lame and clunky Exos.

The funniest thing are players who try and play BO3 like AW, boosting high into the air to do a "Death from Above" (shooting down as they descend), but the difference is they don't get as high and are completely vulnerable compared to AW because the descent is slower which makes hitting them easier.

My best memory of the beta is doing a wall run right over two enemies, dropping down behind them and then getting a Double Kill.

This is the kind of stuff they want players to experience, but half of them never will simply because they don't know how to use the wall running and/or don't bother to do it because they are used to running around at ground level. There is no right, or wrong way to play the game, but BO3 balanced the risk/reward for wall running whereas AW is so unbalanced in every respect, IMO.

PC plays the best between it and PS4, the graphics look worse however. But less lag and better hit detection most games. That's how I came to the conclusion of how much I dont like the rest of the game. I dont even have fun laying waste in the game. I guess it's left me behind with its direction.

Guess I will just play older releases until the player base is gone.

going back in for one last hour/chance.

played until i got disconnected.

went undefeated in Demolition during the PC beta, though it made my KDR take a nosedive towards the end... i was there to PTFO and win! had 6 plants and 4 defuses one game. game actually plays pretty well gun on gun. FAR better than BO2 and obviously AW. the specialists bug the crap out of me and its for that reason i wont be playing it much. i dont have to worry about buying it because i am sure my son will and will play on his PS4 despite PC playing FAR better than the PS4. its really the specialists that ruin this game for me... if they took them out i would probably play this game, its ALMOST what titanfall should have been [take out the AI and Mechs + add killstreaks and perks and more weapons, lose calling cards... played on real dedicated servers]. specialists are this games participation trophy, kids these days are so pandered to.

favorite SMG was by far the vepr. that thing rips through people... probably be the only SMG i use, though i havent used the ones past that one.

ruin- obnoxious for knifers using overdrive... can you say commando??? i thought we got rid of that, nope. back in the game

outrider- meh, most popular specialist for some reason... i did get a 3 piece with the bow one game cqb and was pretty satisfying.

prophet- the tempest is so annoying that it travels to other players from the one shot... thats total BS

battery- played her a lot, the kinetic armor does NOT work, they need to fix it.

nomad- HIVE is ridiculous when i came across it, but rejack is even worse... last stand back in the game... dealbreaker.

reaper- death machine for an automatic killstreak? really 3arc?!!? i have not encountered psychosis, but can imagine it would suck to come across.

spectre- invisibility! really????

as far as i can tell, the specialists are 3arc trololing us but im not buying. is this fucking x-men? or CoD?

anyway, those are my final thoughts. so close 3arc... so close.

Well, the beta is over. For some that is a relief, for others it's just a teaser of things to come in the next two months :)

I want to thank Dillinger, for merging the two posts and keeping my original title. Gotta love a mod who doesn't mess with excellence - j/k.

I've already pre-ordered the game on PS4, and PC, so I don't think I'm a hypocrite for saying if it plays better on launch, I will have gotten my moneys worth

considering I usually log hundreds of hours of CoD even if it is "bad" e.g. AW. They're just video games. You either have fun playing them, or you don't.

I agree with Procreate, the PC version played the best online, but the game itself needs serious optimization... Which I am optimistic about considering the devs

flat out said there are (were) tons of graphical features missing from the beta.

I also didn't encounter that many cheaters, ironically. I know one guy was hacking because he knew exactly were I was EACH AND EVERY TIME, so it wasn't Vision Pulse, or UAV. But aside from ONE guy, the beta was pretty clean on PC, for me. That may change come release, but Treyarch are very good about anti-cheat on PC unlike IW, or SHG. So, my faith in keeping the game legit is not without merit.

So, to wrap this up, there are tons of games to play between now and November... Namely "Mad Max" and "Metal Gear Solid 5"... Let alone I still haven't finished "Witcher 3", or even "GTA 5".

Game on, everybody! :D

Thanks as well to JConnor for providing colorful and insightful updates.  We both had the idea about the same time, so I am glad it worked out for all.  :P

I am extremely happy and greatful to Treyarc for giving us a Beta.  It was "free", it was a great diversion from AW and Black Ops 2 for me, and because of this very real point.  I now know that I will be playing the majority of my Black Ops 2 on PS3 to get ready for my new PS4 and Battle Beaver PS4 controller for the November drop.

Between consoles, everything has been AT LEAST a grade higher in almost every report/opinion.  The Playstation roll out was smoother, it had less bugs and it played better, not to mention it was possible to have a "casual" game.  That is enough for me, I am jumping ship so to speak and will be testing both releases, but I will only be buying the DLC on the PS network.

i'm looking forward to November.  Might need to start lining out a few days off work for a long weekend centered around the release so I can get in early and unlock some must have features/perks/guns *consults little book of notes*
