Hey guys

I just noticed theres a process called Wii Online using a lot of my bandwith sometimes there are occasional peaks which  occur in a short intervall like maybe every 30 seconds.

here a SS of the Network Monitor when this happens.

I don't have a Wii  and it happens to be a process on my pc I just tried to scan for viruses in case but found nothing.

Any help on why this occurs?

regards

Hey Manu, not to worry. We are aware of this, the process whereby we detect Wii Online has not been fully optimized and therefore appears when it should not. It is simply activity on the same ports that we have dubbed Wii Online.

so I don't have to worry because sometimes it uses soo much of my bandwith it's crazy and I was afraid it would be someting on my end.

By the way as I have 10 MB up some of my friends told me they lag sometimes when I am hosting. but I'm pretty sure it's not because of me because I have enough bandwith even when streaming and watching or downloading stuff It should not be a problem.

my friends usually are located around 540 Km from where I live.

No you dont need to worry :)

10mb up is absolutely plenty. Games do not use much upload much to contrary belief. They are not that far from you either, around half what we recommend (1000km) to get a good game. I would say that it is highly unlikely the cause of the lag is because you are hosting.

yeah i know they don't use much =) but it's okay now that you said that it's not showing the real usage. but how can my mates lag on my host when I should be a decent host with my connection ?

Do your mates live far away? Could also be thing inbetween you and your mates. Upload is important but its not the only thing. They could also be causing themselves to lag with a bad connection. Many reasons.

they live in france I live in switzerland but thanks for the explanations =) well I would say it could be my friends connections but in my opinion  CoD AW has piss poor network code based on p2p so what could we expect.....

I don't know what connections are like for France-Switzerland(very cool btw) but from personal experience I've found French connections to be disproportionally bad to the UK. So France is our nearest neighbour but the connections are worse then Netherlands.

This is just subjective, I haven't done any empirical tests. Just from me gaming.

Same here say I'm doing a speedtest to a server either in italy or in France which is in KM nearer to me . but the ping in those two countrys are way worse than if I do a speedtest to a server located in switzerland even if that server is farther away than the ones in italy and france.

anyway thanks for the info have a nice evening

PS: quick question about the software used on the router. is that based on linux or on what is based your "framework"/ OS.

Built on top of the great OpenWRT. We actually have our own router OS but decided to go with OpenWRT in the end.

I wanted to know Iain is the router your own design or is it based of something like the mikrotik router boards? great design and software package thou

Thanks for the kind words.

Hi no we have nothing to do with hardware. We outsourced Mikrotik because it was powerful piece of kit. In fact at the time it was top of the line. We are a software only company.
