Extremely slow connection to DumaOS

Recommended Posts

Hi, everybody. Overall I'm a very satisfied owner of XR500. Everything seems to work pretty well, but there an issue with connection speed to my router itself. All my devices are connected by wifi. Every time I want to check something or change something in the settings via PC, its becoming a real pain in the ass, because of how slow my router response is. It literally takes minutes to open starting page and any page opening is always taking several minutes. Is that normal or should I do something to improve the response time? I'm located in Moscow, Russia.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

This is not normal for it to be slow in responding, however, how is your XR500 connected? Did you say it is connected to another router and if so is it a modem/router combo? Ideally a wired connection via pc is the best method to make changes but still should not cause delays by minutes as you are experiencing at the moment.

What url are you using to connect? If it’s slow, make sure you use http:// not https://

We would also recommend you use a browser like Chrome or Firefox.

If you are already doing both of these things, then something else will be the cause. Is your PC especially old (>7 years old)?

Also, if you go to System Information, is the CPU graph maxed out?

wire to router, from router via wifi to PC and other devices.

URL is http:// and its as slow in Chrome as in Firefox. PC is pretty fast (i7-8700k...), in system information CPU usage is not higher than 30%.

What is your other network device, is it a modem or a modem router? If you are connected to a modem/router combo and it is using a default ip address of 192.168.1.1 and your Xr500 is connected to it then there could be an ip conflict as it's default ip address is also 1.1. also if upnp is enabled on both devices also this can cause similar issues you are experiencing.

Do you have any specialist firewall or security software running on your router?

Are you using Private browsing / incognito mode each time? I'm wondering if pages are not caching for some reason and that's slowing things down.

Do you have a different laptop/PC you can try accessing the UI with? Just to see if the slow loading is because of the PC or because of the router.

It looks that the problem is in my PC. I tried to access XR500 via my laptop and result is much, much faster response time. It literally takes seconds now.

Both PC and laptop are on Win10 with Kaspersky as a security programm. I guess some settings are different and that difference making delays.

Ok, that's good you have been able to verify where the bottleneck is.

Could you try this please:

  1. Open Chrome in incognito mode
  2. Go to DumaOS and then open the QoS page
  3. Wait for the page to load
  4. Then refresh the page

Is the page any quicker on refresh? The reason I'm suggesting this is to figure out if any browser extensions are slowing you down. When you are in incognito mode, extensions are removed.

You could also try disabling your security software just temporarily to see if that's the cause of the bottleneck. Obviously re-enable it after you have tested it
