Hey all,

im running cat5e cables at the moment between modem/duma/Xbox......I’ve heard that cat6 STP cables are better? Less noise due to the shielding versus the UTP? Will it improve my gaming?

Thanks so much!

it will do no harm as it helps to eliminate electrical interference that may improve your gaming or it may not! Sorry but I cannot give you a better answer as each persons network connection is unique.

Cool, yea just trying to get the most out of it. So if cat6 is a cleaner signal, may be worth it.

Do the 5e come in STP?

yes, I think they do. Category 5 enhanced cabling, also known as Cat5e, is an improvement on Cat5 cabling. It was made to support 1000 Mbps "gigabit" speeds, so in theory, it's faster than Cat5. It it also cuts down on crosstalk, the interference you can sometimes get between wires inside the cable. Both of these improvements mean you're more likely to get fast, reliable speed out of Cat5e cabling compared to Cat5. Butif you are buying new cables it may be a good idea to go for cat6 which are better.

Cool, I’m thinking about going Cat 6 for sure but the more I read about the STP, the more I may stick with the UTP version. There’s a lot of talk about having to properly ground that style due to the shielding & if not done properly can cause more issues. Is the STP not grounded within the cable or is it something that has to be done in addition to? Seems like going with just plain ole cat6 as short as possible may be the way to go.....from the modem to duma, and duma to Xbox. I think the one duma sends is a cat5e.
