Set up question

Recommended Posts

Hello,

New XR500 owner here. Question about a set up with tha xr500.

Is it okay to have one device (pc) that connects to my ISP modem and also connected is the XR500.

I have everything else running through the netgesr router except that one pc which is connected to the modem because I use that solely to isolate my wife work from all other devices that's on the router.

Does this set up interfere or downplay any thing that will hinder my gaming?

It would be better if that pc was running through the Xr500 also incase any automatic updates start downloading or your wife decides to watch video's that can use a lot of bandwidth. You can limit the amount of bandwidth her pc uses via the XR500 so that it does not interfere with whatever other tasks you are doing such as gaming.

As Big_Dog said, doing the setup you’ve suggested means you will not be applying any QoS (anti-congestion) to your wife’s PC

So if your wife’s PC uses a lot of bandwidth, it will cause you to lag.

I’d recommend connecting the PC to your XR500 instead. Then go to QoS and the Bandwidth Allocation panel. From there, you can give her PC as much (or as little) bandwidth as you think she’ll need. Any unused bandwidth is automatically shared so you could give her as much as 80% or 90% if you want.

If you get stuck at any point, this guide walks you through the whole QoS page: http://support.netduma.com/support/solutions/articles/16000077073-dumaos-optimal-settings-guide-qos-step-3-
