DVI vs HDMI

Is it right that gaming on a monitor via DVI is better than gaming through HDMI? I am considering gaming on my PS4 with a HDMI to DVI cable.

It is the same digital signal just DVI does not have audio so there is no point doing that.

that's ok as I use astro's and a mixamp via optical out. I currently have my pc on DVI and both consoles on the other 2 hdmi ports.

i don't think you'd see any difference on console.  Your refresh rate will stlll max out at 60hz, and I'm pretty sure you can only have 1080p for resolution. I could be wrong, but that's how I understand it

I was wondering wether there was a degradation in picture quality more than anything. I want to have my pc running through hdmi and my ps4 through dvi. I already have the cable but the hassle of altering the wires is something i do not relish :)

I use a DVI to HDMI cable from my PC to TV @ 1080p and it is fine no degradation. You mentioned it may give better results it will just be the same as your HDMI to HDMI @ 1080P 60Hz with no audio but you wont need that anyhow.

Try it and see what you think if it is as good a quality cable as your HDMI you should be good.

I see, I totally get that angle BD.  It's quite the hassle.  I'm dealing with a similar one.  My monitor has 1 display port and 1 HDMI.  I have the console on the HDMI, but my PC and my work laptop both use display port.  They don't make a Display port splitter which goes past 60hz refresh reliably.  I either have to swap cables every time or have 60hz refresh when I'm gaming on the PC.  I wish my desk had more room for another monitor!  Good Luck!
