Bufferbloat Help

Just wondering if anyone knows for sure how bufferbloat effects online gaming, I play Call of Duty mainly and get a Base ping of 14ms, never lag in games but always seem to die so often when I always shoot first. 

 

Ran a test using dslreports and got a D grade on bufferbloat, could this be a reason why and can someone explain if is affecting anything?

The ideal dslreports result is an A+ It took me a very long time to find my optimal setting as everyone's connection is unique.  If I do not use my anti-bufferbloat settings I get a D also. This is my result when I throttle my speeds to my best settings. Having a poor rating means that you maybe experiencing delay lag which means a delay in the hit detection and registration.

Are you ADSL or fibre. approximate speeds up and down?

 

 

Which CoDs are you playing? What works for most CoDs will not apply to WW2 which has as unique set of problems.

 

Line quality is not the only thing to focus on. I can have bad games on A+ and good games with an F (hard throttle). Line quality only refers to the download anyway.

 

You should also look to the charts to see upload and download ping under full load. Big_dog has a great result where there is no bufferbloat in either direction.

 

That's the first priority and then focus on improving the line quality second. You will also have to consider internal usage; if the whole family is online then your settings may differ to a quiet network.

It could potentially be bad - if you're downloading etc at the same time as gaming, with a bufferbloat score like that you could encounter more ping spikes / instability as a result.

 

Try throttling Anti-Flood down to 70/70, and run another test. If you get similar results, keep throttling down until you start to see better bufferbloat scores. It's worth experimenting here and finding the best settings for your connection.

I know a lot on here will say go to pingplotter which I did and I always get good readings, however it still as yet to help me fight the lag in COD (which lag will always be with COD) but I too mess around on DSLReports with my speed throttle which is the joy of owning the R1 because the sliders make it very easy and quick to throttle. At 70/70 I get and " A+ A  A+ across the board. but when I slide my download slider to 30 and actually move my upload slider to 80 (as you can tell Ive played around with it ALOT) I get an A+ on all 3 and I get really good games...like 50+ kills and under 15 deaths. Also I also turn off my hyper traffic. Just keep messing with your settings until you find what works for you. 30/80 might not work for you...70/70 might be perfect...it just depends on how your speeds and R1 is working together.
