XR500 Issues

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Just got the XR500 the other day and got it up and running -- Firmware .10 (current official release)

Some issues/questions:

1. If wifi SSID name contains a \ (ex. try "network/\one") Device Manager's Network Map graphic will display 3 additional \'s after SSID name (in the 2.4 & 5 GHz wifi bubbles). SSID is correct on broadcast and everywhere else so far, just appears funny in the Network Map graphic. Bug?

2. I have a Netgear Wifi range extender and its IP is doubled in Port Forwarding (Settings, Advanced settings, Port Forwarding, Add Custom Service) and LAN Setup/Address Reservation (Settings, Setup, LAN Setup, Add) lists.  If it's not doubled, it's sometimes shown as "<unknown>     <unknown>". I did assign it a reserved IP address.  Its clients (when in use) appear to be working OK.  Just a strange double entry. It appears once in the list, and then again on the bottom either as its true info, or <unknown>. Bug?

3. Port Forwarding (Settings, Advanced settings, Port Forwarding, Add Custom Service) and LAN Setup (Settings, Setup, LAN Setup, Add) Address Reservation list of IPs does not show the network names I defined for devices in the Device Manager R-App. Bug?

4. If adding a manual entry to Port Forwarding it does not allow a space in the Device Name. Bug / By design?

5. Question: Device Manager -- Does it only populate the online side of the map during network traffic only? I have devices pop on and offline and I know they are on and connected to some application or another but still jumping online and offline randomly.

6. Question/Bug: Upon a port scan of my public IP port 22 is marked as closed.  Why is it closed rather than stealth?  All other routers always stealth'd the port unless it was explicitly in use. Bug?

7. Question: Any place to set my time zone for the NetDUMA side of the router? I see on the Netgear settings a timezone can be set in Settings, Content Filtering, Schedule.  Log timestamps are correct there, but off on the System information Logs on the NetDUMA side.

Seems to be working fine otherwise, will keep testing things.

Thanks,

XR500user

Hey, welcome to the forum!

  1. Not seen that, will try to reproduce.
  2. If previously connected via DHCP router may still hold that info until a reboot is done.
  3. Settings part of the router uses its own device detection so they don't show as the same names. Unsure if this will be more seamless in future.
  4. By design I believe.
  5. Sometimes even if a device is connected its not always actively engaged with applications/services so will sometimes go offline even if connected.
  6. Fixed in next firmware being released this week I believe.
  7. Not at the moment, the time in Settings is the time any of the settings requiring it will go off so System Information is purely for info.

Hi,

I upgraded to the latest official release yesterday when it was posted.

All defined names in Device Manager that do not ARP identify were erased.  No biggie, I put them back in -- Made a list prior to upgrade because I was aware this may be an issue.  Hopefully you can work this one out for next upgrade as it's time consuming.  All other settings remained.

Router was up for 15+ hours without issue, but at 02:22:24 UTC is when this started:

At that time one of the regular log entries appeared:

[DumaOS] Marking device that is marked xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

This entry appears hundreds of times during the 15 hours and I am aware it's just for developers (it was in .10 also) -- but right after this log entry this particular main event occurred, the the entire Internet went down.

Note this hasn't ever happened on .10, and it really hasn't happened with my previous router either. All devices were knocked off (Ethernet/Wifi) and Wifi devices had a ? in the wifi symbol.  "Connected, No Internet"

At 02:24:24 UTC (2 minutes later)  I saw some messages started in the Logs:

[internet connected] IP address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ......

The Internet came back up 2 minutes later after that initial marking log entry.

Now every hour just about on the hour I'm getting:

[internet connected] IP address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ......

@03:24:24 UTC, 04:23:24, 05:24:24, 06:24:23, 07:24:24, etc.  (either 23 or 24 seconds) as if some cron job started itself right after the initial event.

I doubt the Internet went out (Fios) and is usually up 99.9% since I've had it.  It could be a coincidence (the first time it went out ,ever?) but there's too many other situations for me to think that. (firmware upgrade, log messages, etc)

The Internet has been up as far as I know (was sleeping) but now I see this Internet connected msg every hour. I will run this firmware for a while, but if it keeps happening I will go back to .10 where it was stable -- especially if it knocks the Internet out again. Bug?

Also note the router is pretty vanilla, Anti-bufferbloat, Qos, etc is all default haven't touched them yet I like to do these things one at a time so if an issue occurs I can figure out what was changed.  The only thing I did on this release was rearrange the Dashboard, adding other windows I wanted to see.

PS. Any luck reproducing #1?

Thanks,

I've sent you a PM with a firmware that will fix the drop issue (its based on .10 so won't have anything from latest release). Do you have an Xbox by any chance?

Yes I was able to reproduce it, thanks. I'll make a ticket for it.

can i get the same firmware fix as well?  my gameplay is getting very delayed hit markers on xbox one

The firmware is for the internet dropping out, not for delayed hit markers. If your internet is dropping out I can certainly send it to you. Otherwise could you please make a new topic describing your issue and providing screenshots of your settings and we can advise further.

My xr500 is not picking up my xbox one console and when i do play online trhe ping is like 400ms all the time

Can you make a new topic regarding your issues please and we can help out. That sounds like congestion, cable issue or at worst ISP.
