DumaOS isn't currently out on the R1 - myself and Fraser can't speak for the development team, so any news will likely come from them directly either here or on our social media channels. We want DumaOS to be available on the R1 as soon as possible, so fingers crossed it will be launched soon!

Yeah, it is especially the lack of communication, you can ask about the NetdumaOS and NetdumaR1 anywhere else on the forum and you would hear: '' Release date is close!'' '' We are still working really hard on it and it is really almost done ''. But here on this thread, you hear jack shit, nothing. Even if the can't get it to work if they would have been transparent about it 1.5 years ago and came up with another solution, like giving a discount on the XR500 or something, but they made it so hard for themselves to the point that they stand with their backs against the wall.

I have multiple friends that also wanted to buy a Netduma product, the NetdumaR1 or the XR500 they are not sure, but because of the problems with the NetdumaOS and R1 combi they are certainly not getting the R1 atm, and because Netduma promised multiple features to be released on the XR500 months ago again missing multiple promised release date, my friends just don't know what to believe anymore, so atm they also don't want to pick up the XR500 either and I understand that! I mean what is real and what is not.

I advise all my friends and other people I meet to at least wait, don't buy anything from another brand yet, just give them (again) a few more weeks, because their software is great, but we are now really reaching a boiling point, this is a point that it doesn't matter what I say anymore even though I am a master salesman and that people will say .... Netduma.

We knew that nobody would or could give us another ETA even a year ago I never demanded one, I just want to know what is going on, because I have people asking me question, because I roam the forums and they do not, because I keep their Netduma R1 and XR500 up and running if they ever run into a problem. I would also like to know what is going on because I can't endlessly keep defending something or someone when I am kept completely into the dark. In the dark to a point that the only possibility that's left is the one of false speculation and that never does any good, but I mean what do you want if you keep your lips sealed for more then 10 weeks!

I've explained why we're not giving another ETA - it's too risky, look at the mess it landed us in the last time we gave out an ETA. It's difficult to predict precisely when it'll be ready, so we aren't risking letting anyone down again.

I saw your question on the DumaOS/R1 delay thread - in response to it, it's Netgear who are working with those YouTubers and Netgear who are mostly promoting their XR500. We didn't make those decisions, and it doesn't mean the R1 is dying or falling by the wayside.

The thing we'd like everyone to remember is that the software currently installed on the R1 is still groundbreaking, and still won awards, and is still better than any gaming software available on any other consumer router (at least with regards to solving real gaming problems).

DumaOS will be coming, but you still have the best. We'll be giving you even better soon.

Thanks Jack. Knew I'd get an honest answer from you.

We realise the lack of statements / communication has been frustrating. As I've said elsewhere, the developers are keen to take an 'actions rather than words' approach to the DumaOS / R1 launch, as they've made multiple communication errors in the past that have led to this point. They are now just cramming on it rather than getting over-excited and giving launch dates that are too risky.

There's no conspiracy to raise XR500 sales by delaying DumaOS on the R1. Business-wise, it'd make no sense - Netgear are perfectly capable of selling tens of thousands of units by themselves, and their colossal size means the Netduma R1 is barely a drop in the ocean for them. DumaOS was delayed due to technicalities we wish had never happened.

Likewise we can't make an offer, such as trading in the R1 for an XR500. Netgear are a very separate company - we're in partnership, but are in no way able to make such an offer. Many of the R1 delays have indeed come from the necessity of fixing bugs or issues with the XR500 - but this is to be expected, as not supporting the XR500 would mean an end to our future relationship with Netgear (and an end to our ability to release our software on the best hardware on the planet, which is hopefully an exciting prospect for you guys as much as us).

The bottom line is DumaOS is coming to the R1. It's not my place to say when, though I've started telling people it'll be 'soon' because I've seen the developers at work and know this to be true. I'm keen to not repeat mistakes myself though, so I'm not going to build your expectations. I hope this gives you a bit more insight, but the statement remains the same. "DumaOS is coming soon, and will still be free, to the Netduma R1".

well for one this gives us zero further insight as this is just rehashing what everyone is already aware of so big fat F- on that attempt at clarification.

if they are keen on "actions rather than words" then maybe someone should tell them that the reverse is also very true; a complete lack of visible action in any way, shape, or form is just as bad as the the circus that surrounded the ETA announcements. you have to pick one or the other if you want to avoid a completely negative PR perspective on the consumer side: you either announce what your doing regardless if that's an eta or a periodic status report or whatever with some meaningful information or B: you make progress and show it on a regular basis (the beta would have been a perfect example of option B but that never went anywhere at all due to who knows why, and bugs are not a valid excuse as a beta is already from the start assumed to be buggy; that's the whole point of having a beta phase.)

any other option that removes both of those is just a PR shitstorm waiting to happen with an near exponentially rising risk of occurrence the longer that it is allowed to continue.

right now the "its coming", "soon", "its right around the corner"  BS filler answers are starting to be perceived as just that: filler answers to avert mass consumer loss of confidence.

so unless that "around the corner" is within the next 2 to 4 weeks people will probably start to hear or see yours guy's words in a "cry wolf" light and will seldom take anything said at face value and automatically assume that it likely won't amount to anything substantial or assume that its BS until it actually happens (or doesn't and then the whole "see they jerked it around again" scenario will begin with the accompanying bad PR)

no one is saying the communication has to be an ETA but there needs to be something; a bug list, a progress report, anything; and any excuse about the devs not having time to do that is honestly disingenuous at best. any dev worth a damn has a list of bugs they are working on or know of that need to be worked on, it would literally take 30 seconds at most to format it in a readable form and post that on the forums once a week. it doesn't need to be a giant "proofed for marketing" kind of post; just show progress, if you or anyone else expect anyone to believe that a developer, even on a small team doesn't have 30 seconds to spare in the course of a WEEK you'll be sorely disappointed on people's responses.

I'll tell you something, they lost the confidence they had from consumers who will never recover.

What takes so long to build, they lay down in a short time.

It's time to move on, and with the arrival of the dedicated servers on the consoles, Geo-Filter will become obsolete, and I want to see what the future of the Netduma Company will be.

Why are people so desperate for the update? The R1 works absolutely fine and does what it needs too, only downfall is the WiFi but can live with that, what does the update bring that the normal update doesn’t please explain ??

For me i really don´t care to much for new firmware. I don´t think will be much different from this one.

It´s more about attitude from Netduma, not good at all, with lies, lies... about this update.

No need lies, mostly of us are adult to understand what´s going on company, and what they do to Netduma R1 Users.

Keep the current firmware on the R1 and just upgrade and add accordingly don’t see the point

well for one there is the issue of massive slow down on bandwidth that severely hinders mutli-device homes and networks; for instance i have an asus rt-ac68p router, its  great router but kinda sucks on upnp and console gaming (pc less an issue with correct port forwards) this router gets massively better downloads (max speed i've gotten consistently is about 150mbps from various internet sources) and streaming rates but does not play nice with the r1 if i connect it behind or in front of the R1

contrary to that the r1 despite being capable of about 800mbps lan speeds can barely maintain a 5 or 6 Megabyte per second link on downloads or streaming (so about 45 to 60 megabits)

this is even with just one device connected and all settings set to allow that device full bandwidth utilization and every possible combo of settings that i can tweak.

so the dumaos update is supposed to handle the networking better than the original r1 firmware; if this is the case it may allow those like me with this kind of issue to actually use the r1 without knocking everyone else off the network or severely tanking their connections.

there are other issues like upnp and device allocations being unable to be handled manually but i cant speak to those being changed in the dumaos or not since i don't know if it is something that got changed or not.
