What will this step do! Better connection?

Maybe - WW2 players stand by the opinion that ridiculously low pings (like 10ms) tend to make the gameplay worse. Their lag compensation isn't great for those kinds of pings, so forcing a slightly further away server could make it play better :)

This. I'm in the UK and on 7ms, my bullets are like bubbles and I die really quick.

I force eastern european servers and the connections are so much better.

Yup, I can confirm that a ww2 has a sweet spot when it comes to ping. I was pinging to servers in California at 15ms and experienced that I would get melted and have no reaction time 9 out of 10 times. So I experimented with other server locations that would give me a ping of 80 to 100ms and I would noticed the hit detection also was bad. Finally I found a server that pings 45-50ms and hit reg is finally acceptable 9 out of 10 times. Every now and then a will still feel horrible but I believe it has a lot to do with the players in lobby and how the game balances out the lag compensation. Play around with different servers with your geo filter until you find a server that is 40-50ms and share your results! Hope it works for anyone who tries this method...

I do this when I get tired of the Southern California Server, but usually when the San Francisco server comes up that one plays well and sometimes better than the So Cal server. But the Dallas Texas pings at about 43ms and is sweet and sometimes it is bad but that is because of the players with bad ping.

It's not lag comp but just the laws of physics - if you're on a considerably higher latency than another guy, you'll see him before he sees you. This getting melted inconceivably fast is common in games where you're on <one frame of latency to the server and someone else is lagging. Sadly the enemy lagging seems to affect how fast your shots register too - since latency stacks in a gunfight, regardless of who's on the better connection - even though you'd expect low latency would at least give you solid hit detection. After 2500+ games on IW since moving to a better ISP where I now get a flat 7ms to my local server, that's a load of nonsense. My shots only register fast if everyone else is on low latency, and since it's impossible to influence matchmaking or control who joins games on a server, my experience is determined by how shit everyone else's connection is. I'd say maybe 0.5-1% of games on 7ms actually felt like it.

There seems to be a sweet spot - play on higher latency until you notice that latency starts to impact how fast your shots register. Judging by my experience and what I've seen from countless other people, it seems to be somewhere between 34ms (a nice round value of two frames at 60fps) and 50ms. I got a few games of IW TDM on the Polish server at 40ms~ last year and it was ez mode; I was melting but felt invisible with nobody reacting to me.

On 7ms everyone in my lobby is a veteran bot while host on the fastest monitor ever built. Then you watch the killcam (which is more accurate the LOWER your latency is) and apparently you're a deer in headlights facing in a totally different direction, while they can afford to have a thumb spasm and LMG windmill hipfire around you on 2 sensitivity while dropping packets LOL

WW2 was so much worse than IW that I uninstalled at level 20 something. I had just two games with tolerable hit detection and time to react. Trashcans rule... it fits the supply drop RnG/SBMM/participation trophy generation logic to a tee lmao

Lag comp is real my friend, ping is not king.  A stable connection definitely helps but if the games net code adjusts to a player with bad internet to even the playing field, this is called lag compensation. IWs connection was way more consistent than WW2s, this I can agree to.  Never needed a sweet spot for my ping in IW.

I hear you, its a hit or miss sometimes but its more playable than on a low ping server

I didn't say lag comp isn't real. It just isn't what 99.9% of people who play games think it is.

wow....before i had a 12ms ping on ww2 and now im playimg on a texas server witch gives me 45ms and i melt ...lol...why? is like people cant react to me

I find watching PC players on games with numerical ping values on the scoreboard helps me figure it out. The three biggest melts I've ever watched across any CoD from MW3 to WW2 were usually on stable connections somewhere between 39-47ms.

It was pretty unusual yesterday. I watched an amazing player on MW3, and he was on 60ms or so which was unusual. When he's on servers and not using the host tool (to prevent snipers who kick anyone remotely good for easy lobbies and to get rid of hackers), he's usually on 40-43ms himself, very stable, on the same ISP as me. His RIDICULOUS aim wasn't good enough to stop him dying many times yesterday. Any of those games seem much more fun (and relaxed in a sense) when he's in the 40s, and even laggers forced into his games due to broken matchmaking (I'm talking endless 150-300ms players) don't pose that much of a problem for him. There are always two other well known PC players who play more BO2, BO3 and WW2 and on 40ms up to around 47ms their game seems easy. One of them endlessly dropped packets on IW (hexagon icons every game, all year long) and still melted lmao ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't get me wrong, low ping games can be great... if everyone is on low pings to the server. Shame that rarely happens. I got embarrassed in a game full of people from across the world last night when I'm still just 30 miles from my local server, and the lobby was full of scrubs. Didn't mean a thing, and nor did having a monitor with just 1.6ms of input lag cause I was taking damage before I saw it. It was a stroll in the park for these weirdos rounding corners and getting a good extra 200ms to line up a shot at me. Then I'd return fire and get 200ms hitmarker delays. Can't win LOL

BTW I just found the only video I had of me playing on the Polish server last year, at 40ms dead on I believe. I was frying but slow players actually reacted slowly. Sounds crazy doesn't it? Hahaha
