PSN issues when downloading updates?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I dont know what it is but I have 100 down / 10 up speed and when I download an update of 3gb on the console it takes for a long time. On the PC its much faster even though I download via Wifi connection. Does anybody know why that is? Is it the PSN?

Thx in advance

Yeh I agree with Big Dog - there's no reason for this to be the case unless the problem is PSN itself. In my experience it can be pretty slow compared to downloading on a PC unfortunately.

it ias a psn issue, not a router issue. I have had this problem on psn even before I had the R1 or the XR500. Just psn's shitty infrastructure!

Thank you guys. The funny thing is, on the ps3 I didnt have these issues. Peace

Is your console in hyperlane when you are downloading? hyperlane is for low latency traffic not for downloads so removing the console from hyperlane while downloading might help, unless of course its just PSN like the guys have already said.

For what it's worth. When downloading updates etc on The PS I put the CC sliders at 100% and gave the PS maximum bandwith and then pause the download for a minute or so and then start it again.

That always seemed to work in downloading stuff quicker :)

My console is never in hyperlane. I tested it with and without hyperlane. Didnt see a difference in playing games and downloading.

I did the same like you said with the sliders on 100% and full bandwith for the PS4. No results at all. Thats why I hate the PSN. I think the xbox has a better plattform what I hear from other guys.

How long are these downloads taking for you? Did you try another Ethernet cable to the PS4? :)

There's a really useful thread about this issue here: https://community.playstation.com/content/pdc/us/en_US/pdc-communities/support/Consoles-Peripherals.topic.0.25.html/downloading_in_ps4i-1X7u

Seems like PSN throttles downloads per download. The write speed of the hard drive is apparently around 70mbps so 1-2mbps seems very low even going on the PSN limitations. PSN (judging by that thread) can limit your downloads to around 30mbps.

It is likely to do with how your location is supported as well, which is why some people get it and not others.

Hi Jack. I tried now with the following solution. I wired the ps4 with my isp router and downloaded the new ww2 update of 1.2 gb. It took only 4 minutes. It looks like the r1 has an issue. This is not good man. The R1 should not slow down the speeds when the sliders are on 100% and all bandwith to the ps4. I realized this earlier when I made speed tests on the pc. When I connect my router directly to the pc I have full speeds. When I do it with the R1 it halfs the speed. Wtf???

If you reset distribution, keep share excess ticked and have the CC sliders at 100% do you see more normal results when downloading?

I did all that things bro. Nothing helped at all. I restarted my r1 about 100 times since I got it one year ago. Im tired of it, that I have to restart my r1 all the time even though want just to load a profile or do anything else.

Have you done a factory reset from Miscellaneous?

It does sound like it could be faulty. If you email [email protected] with your order number / receipt of purchase we'll check if you are covered by your warranty. Thanks!

Hi Jack,

I just sent an email to the suggested emailaddress with my order number. I purchased the Netduma Router last year on 29 May 2017.

doing a speedtest on the ps4 is not accurate. i get only full speeds when i am directly wired to my isp router not to the r1. and this is ridicolous.

I said dslreports.com speed test on the browser, not PS4 connection test.

Im always doing my speedtests there bro. With the R1 I get only half speeds even though sliders on 100% and full bandwith to the pc. With my ISP Router I get full speeds of 100/10. But thanks for your time bro
