Anyone with the XR500 opinions and thoughts

Recommended Posts

Anyone with the XR500 will you please give me your opinions and thoughts on your gaming experience with the XR500. Is it much better than the duma? Is it worth the $300 you spent. I'm considering buying one. I've owned the R1 since it first came out. It still does its job but I just want to upgrade if the XR500 is definitely an upgrade and after thinking about it and pondering the delay. I'm wondering if the R1 can even handle this new upgrade. Hence why they are trying to make it backwards compatible. I just don't think it will be that good on duma. So fire away with your opinions. I live in MN and only play cod and my kids play stupid ass fortnite. Thanks!

I don't think we are going to ever get good gameplay, man. The internet providers in Minnesota are just meh... not very good or how you say Spectrum's cable internet is not good for gaming. We live kind of far away from the cod/ps4/xbox/pc servers. You probably connect to Chicago, Illinois servers most of the time with the lowest game ping probably at 25-30 ms correct? At least that's what I have and you already know I live in Duluth, MN. Just compared to other people that live really close to the server they will always kick our ass b/c they live closer to the server with like 1-10 ping ms. Also gaming on cable is probably shit lol (as I heard from the moderators on here). I was planning on a trip to Chicago to see if the connection is a lot better there for cod since there's a server there.

I'm going to be honest and say if you aren't doing so well with games as of right now, the router itself or router(s) is not going to help a whole lot. Sure it can filter out low ping games, but most games now already do this, and if those lobbies are full, it will put you into maybe a 40-50 ping ms game/lobby. Gameplay also depends on lag compensation for most fps tittles, whoever has the best lag compensation is king imo and will do the best in that game. I think you already know what that is, your opponent eats many bullets, but they kill you in a split second.

My thoughts on r1 vs xr500 - xr500 all the way, better hardware with all that fancy processing shit and has the best creators of gameplay software and Netgear having probably good hardware? How can anyone side with the r1 if they had a chance to get with the xr500? I think we all want the best! I would keep both, if the xr500 is not good for you, you can just switch to the r1 and vice versa.

Also, keep in mind Amazon warehouse deals is selling the xr500 for $255 I think it was? Or you can buy it for the full $300 brand new.

I don't play on the pos chicago server. You know that I sent you a message and told you to play on the missouri server casue it plays way better. Also, I get 50-70 kills a game in dom on most nights. I just want the better router for smoother gameplay. Ever since I got the tplink modem gameplay has been way smoother. But I'm always looking to make things better where they can get better.

I would get it, I can't play good on any server LOL. I only have like 1/10 games where I get good comp. Any chance you make videos of your gameplay so I can see what it looks like? I'd love to see it from your perspective <3

Yeah my oldest son always tells me to make vids for youtube. But the market is so oversaturated with that so I don't. There are a lot of ppl that are way better than me too. Cod is basically based on if you have a good crisp connection and if you have good aim your going to wreck. If you don't then your screwed. I'll see if I can get some vids up. I'll have to ask my kid how to do that cause I have no idea, lol

Wow I didn't know John got an XR500, I thought he was just using what his provider gave him, plus he always plugs the R7800 Nighthawk. Good on him.

I just wanted to see what it looks like for a fellow MN mate. To share you should be able to just press the share button on the left top of the ps4 controller if that's what you're on, and then just sign into youtube and upload since the ps4 records all your activities. Here's one of mine with good connection just recorded from my ps4 pro. Don't laugh at me! :P

I think he did at least, he now advertises the xr500 router in his video description instead of the R7800.

Hi - just going to chip in with a few thoughts - hope you don't mind given I work for Netduma. In terms of the important Netduma software features they are the same (or will be once DumaOS is launched on the R1). So the difference comes down to hardware. Obviously the the XR500 hardware > Netduma R1

The benefits of this are not just the superior WiFi (which is good for your whole home) but also that the XR500 has something called 'hardware acceleration', which means some of the processes are run much faster. For example, the XR500 QoS (Congestion Control on the R1) is processed at a ridiculously fast rate. This means features like Anti-Flood and Hyper Traffic can run at very high bandwidth speeds.

It's totally your call whether you think this warrants an upgrade. Either way you'll be on our software which is the best thing you can do for you game's connection  :)

Thanks Netduma Admin.

When will we hear more of the NetDuma roadmap?

Will there be a R2 coming out or has Netgear locked in an exclusivity clause over you?

Hi Dan - we're focussed on getting DumaOS working on the R1 right now but once that's out, we'll be able to let everyone know the features we're going to be developing next. We have lots of great features in our pipeline and the great thing about DumaOS is we can develop so much faster than any other router platform.

Thanks Netduma Admin.

I would much rather buy an R2 than an XR500. Rationale; more likely to see the road map roll out quicker on it rather than wait whilst features have to be tested by Netgear before given to the XR.

What's the probability of seeing a successor to the R1 i.e. a second Netduma branded router

That's fair. Whilst we will endeavour to roll out features as fast as possible on NETGEAR's platforms, because they're much larger than us they will be more risk averse with upgrades (whereas we can push out beta router apps much faster on our own hardware).

Right now the full focus is getting the R1 compatible with DumaOS so can't comment on probability on an R2 - but the forum will be the first to know if this changes!

Hey thanks for chiming in, appreciate it! The one main thing that really has me hesitant in purchasing the XR is it doesn't have the temp ban feature. This was brought up in a thread literally right after it came out and it still doesn't have it...? As Dan said I really don't have the patience in waiting for the meatheads mofo's at netgear to have a thousand meetings and decide if they want the feature on their router before we can get it. I literally use it everyday on cod. It's the only game I play so I have to have it. I'm not downloading the OS on my duma either until ya'll implement it. My duma runs great but I wouldn't mind the extra horsepower the XR router provides.

Permanent ban on servers is in the next version! It's going through NETGEAR's testing so may even be out already. If not, it will be out very soon when NETGEAR post the next update online

It's even better than Temp Ban (because it's permanent) and in DumaOS we revamped the Allow & Deny panel to make it easier to see the connections you have denied.

I'll definitely be in on that if that is the case. I really really want this thing but that is the main reason me holding back on buying it. So is there any way to find out when or is on netgear? Cause I will pull the trigger then. Thanks! Btw you guys are doing an awesome job with everything ya'll do and the product you put out. Without duma gaming was not as fun! I'm a firm believer in you guys despite all of the negativity thats on another said thread! People are so mean these days!

Thank you! Honestly, we just can’t wait to start getting the most out of DumaOS with new features etc. And we understand the frustration on the R1, we’re frustrated too. Hopefully it will be a distant memory in a few months.

We’ll need to ask NETGEAR on the upgrade but it should be very soon! We’ll post it on the forum as soon as it’s live.
