. Mmmmmm when I do ping diagnostics it says my spikes and jitter is terrible :/ not sure if I have the settings correct

like i have already said, theres no point testing if you are doing it over wifi. try it wired on a pc/laptop and see how it is then! you will get jitter and spikes over wifi!

The device and method of connection doesn't matter if doing the network diagnostic test. You're basically only doing the test on the router and being relayed the results to the device of choice. It's like setting up a thinkbroadband broadband quality monitor which tests your network only, rather than through your devices. It's not quite the same as using a speedtest app on a phone or something.

The jitter and spikes are present throughout if they appear on the R1 diagnostic test, meaning there's either a line or hardware issue. I run the diagnostic test from my mobile far more often than when wired (PS4 more often than with a PC) and it's exceptional across the board, 7ms and 0.2ms jitter at most :)

Edit: just did one now through my phone lol

What happens if you set the bandwidth to 20/5?

I'd recommend setting that to either 20/5 or 15/5 if you need that, because you can keep your numbers low for gaming and when you put your sliders back up to 100% it'll give you your full bandwidth regardless. For example I'm on 55/10 with BT, but if I put 1 down 1 up in set bandwidth and kept 100% sliders, I'll still get 55/10 lol

This way when it drops you're covered, and when it goes back up you simply need to move the sliders rather than changing the numbers every time. That should make things a bit simpler.

With the lower numbers of 15/5 or 20/5 or whatever, you'll want as much of that as possible without lagging when using it. Try 20/5 then reduce your sliders little by little (say 5% at a time) and run DSLReports tests (on a PC, wired!! lol) to find the sweet spot where you can keep it as high as possible, but still get an A+ bufferbloat grade. You should be able to get away with more than 70%, perhaps closer to 90%. On BT I can use 97% sliders and still have no congestion, but your mileage may vary.

And like I said, with 20/5 in the set bandwidth box you can still get 30/10 outside of peak times just by knocking the sliders back up to max :)

The suggestions above are great - whilst those Internet Diagnostics results should be accurate even when using a phone, I'd definitely recommend conducting further tests using a wired PC. As Zennon advised, Ping Plotter is the way to go and will give you a really clear idea of what is going on with your line.

Needless to say, it's not your bandwidth causing your lag - it's your bad line quality! :)
