R1 DumaOS Briefly Delayed

It never happened.

Well im guessing it probably did happen as I did receive an invite  to a netduma beta test but unfortunately was unable to participate as I am going through a separation at the moment and a lot of things of mine was still at the property i no longer lived in (the netduma r1 being one of them).

That said I do remember reading that it was only going to be a select few to minimize bugs and things and people affected by them should there be any potential problems!

There's a reasonable probability that NetDuma has been in discussion for months about being acquired by Netgear. It's a great fit for Netgear; they are a HW company and Netduma is really a software company (that delivers their software on a HW device).

Certainly (having been involved in M&A several times) you would spend a lot of time with lawyers and Netgear might want to a) ensure that the device is properly backward compatible to meet EU / US consumer law requirements or (if you're cynical) B) have no intention on delivering DumaOS on the OG R1 and will quietly kill off the product after the acquisition.

All of this is pure hypothesis, I don't have any inside info and so should be taken with a pinch of salt. Like the rest of you, I'm an OG R1 user and would really like to see DumaOS on it.

Nice theory, but I will take that with a bucket load of salt, not a pinch as I know that is not what is happening, but made entertaining reading. Netduma will update you all when it is all sorted and new firmware goes live to download i imagine.

even if you released it after weeks as you said, you still guilty to sell us with that cheap price replacing your customers with a Netgear relation

The upgrade to the new OS on the R1 will be F....R....E....E....free. The customers have not been replaced. Patience is a virtue.

This company is messed up in more ways than 1. So pissed that I invested 200$. The way you interact with your customers is depressing.

I am sorry you feel that way, but they are not messed up. All good things come to those who wait.

We were very patient. The most of us who are complaining did run out of patience over the last year of broken promises. And kewl that it is 4 free no doubt (despite that right now we have nothing at all) but that's no feature or anything it's just nice (if not even incremental to not piss of OG R1 fellas IMHO). The point is, if you cant give it for free that's ok but then just don't announce it as free at least until you are 100% sure you can give it out for free. And it's in no way an excuse for breaking promised release dates not only once and letting the loyal community down. If you promise and fail often enough there will be a point which nobody is left who cares that it's for free.

I still hope the best and that the last promise of some weeks maximum will be fulfilled at the end of this journey. If not I am literally done with this topic.

And we are might not be replaced but it feels like we were sold out to Netgear as, in fact, they paid for DumaOS. I dunno how their agreement is/was but its a matter of fact that the deal with Netgear delayed DumaOS at least once for OG R1 users, not to mention the lack of communication on DumaOS news/updates/teasers/development status the community had to experience based on the agreement with NG.

Wait until when? Until I am a grandpa?? Until everyone has 1Gbps standard internet speeds? Every day that passes the R1 hardware gets more and more to its EOL cycle. Some people including me already have the issue that R1 has a hard time to handle our full line speeds. And as well to consider that back then before 2 years that promised and in short should be released DumaOS made the decision for me to buy the R1 as I wasn't fully convinced with the actual OS which I tested before buying at my friends R1. I repeat myself but there are enough reasons why there is not much room left anymore for waiting and further delaying.

This doesn't affect me since I'm not gaming at the moment, but the reason for the delay has piqued my interest.  I've googled trying to find the BC requirement and I couldn't find anything.  Closest is the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 that includes software.  This is a shot in the dark -- I'm hoping someone from Netduma is willing to help me understand, if there is an applicable law.  Just genuinely interested in understanding the risk aversion of NOT providing BC with DumaOS, given our current inability to revert to previous firmware.

I cannot speak for netduma but can only give my opinion on the backwards compatabilty. The dumaOS is not an update but a completely new/different Operating System. As has been mention on numerous threads about not being able to downgrade on current R1 or a lot of other OS I am assuming that because this is a totally new OS then there has to be a way to switch back to the original version of software if users desire to do so. This is my assumption and not a statement from Netduma and I may be totally off the ball!

You both have the same router you originally paid for. Did you buy it because you wanted the new OS that wasn't even created yet? If so, you only have yourself to blame.  You realize Duma OS is entirely new, correct?  NetDuma is would be well within their rights to make us all pay for the new OS.  They didn't make us pay because we have been with them from the start with the R1.  As their development of the product improved they have passed those improvements on to us for free multiple times. You people act like these guys are a huge multi-national corporation.  Well guess what,  if they were a huge multi-national corporation they would have made you pay for the new OS. On an international level it is us Americans who are always portrayed as the childish ones and you European folk were supposed to be all next level reasonable and mature ...turns out whiney child adults are a worldwide problem.  Go cry to your mammies

.

Truth!

i got banned 2 time (adel75 and adel76) from this forum for calling them out last year when it was supposed to release in "next month.."

no surprise here.. and btw thanks for banning a paying customer.  wonder if colonic is still waiting for his update..

Yes you did. Thank you for bringing that to our attention - although it was quite easy to guess from the +1 username.

You weren't banned for calling anyone out, you were banned for repeatedly breaking forum rules. I expect it was foul language, obnoxious posts, disrespect, etc.

Let's see how long you can manage to remain unbanned.

all one has to do is read this thread to know I may be on to something. You mods are doing a great job avoiding calling out the babies for what they are and staying professional. How's your secret copy of DumaOS treating you
