R1 DumaOS Briefly Delayed

Recommended Posts

Luke, I hope you are being honest here because if you are not that is no way to treat your customers. All I ever wanted was the truth.

Why would he lie?

. "It should take, at absolute most, a few more weeks. Nothing more as we have everything else working."

When they say "a few more weeks", What does that actually mean? Ive waited 2 years, so a couple of weeks is no big issue to me.

Someone please define a few weeks

I'd be more than happy to define the term 'a few weeks' for you.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the definition of a few is a small number of.

Definition of a week is a period of seven days.

Hope this clears things up for you.

There's company advocates and there's you.

I understand being faithful to the Devs but you're not doing yourself any favors shooting every post down with snarky replies.

The fact of the matter is, I bought a product and as much as I have a prerogative to be satisfied and content with the services provided by said product, I also have a right to express my dissatisfaction and/or indignation if the product owners promise something and don't deliver.

Do they have the obligation to provide a new OS? Not at all, they did that out of their own free will, and perhaps they shouldn't have promised to deliver something that they clearly cannot.

But once it's out of their mouths, I can 100% hold them accountable if they fail to comply within the time frame they mentioned.

Things happen, last minute issues do appear, but clear communication is key, because, let's face it, alienating the same folks who built their success is never a good idea, and a forum post, mere hours before the promised OS release is not a good business practice, and even you have to agree on that.

Although something tells me you're just gonna slam me down as a crybaby, and keep on being a Netduma zealot.

-_-

Why would he lie?

Why does anyone lie?  I mean there could be numerous reason but he could be buying some time for now.  Maybe the Duma OS will never be released for the R1 and he knows that so he is buying some time to see if he can work with NG and get R1 owners a discount of some sort on the XR500. So instead of saying sorry guys you are SOL for the Duma OS coming to the R1, instead he can say since the Duma OS is not available for the R1, we are going to give all R1 owners a discount on a purchase of an XR500.

The will lessen the blow for R1 owners with less repercussions.

Just a theory!!!

I believe they honestly designed it to work on the R1 but as the OS became more complex and performance-hungry, they realized it wouldn't run optimally or even at all.

I sympathize with how hard it must be to come out and admit this, but at some point, delays are just not gonna cut it.

LMAO at zealot, but whatever.

Dude asked a stupid question which got the answer it deserved.

I'm not going to slam you as a crybaby either, you're entitled to your opinion, everyone is. However some people are reacting as though their lives depended on it, they need to get a grip, it's a piece of router software.

My take on the delay is that once DumaOS was announced at some point afterwards they were approached by Netgear, that would have massive business opportunity for Netduma, too good to walk away from. After all Netduma is a business, THEIR business.

They obviously knew this would delay the release of DumaOS on the R1 but couldn't tell us about collaboration with Netgear as it was top secret.

Clearly mistakes have been made, the obvious one being setting dates that they couldn't meet, they need to learn from that.

IMO the biggest mistake they made was offering DumaOS for free to start with. Iain & the Netduma team have been developing it for years now, they must be mad to offer it for free, especially to people who don't appreciate it. Hopefully they are taking all your comments & complaints on board & have realised that all this hard work isn't worth it.

They should either charge for future software releases (not firmware updates) or release them installed on new routers.

If that's the route they decide to take, you only have yourselves to blame.

Then they will have a reason to cry like babies for opening their mouths and complaining. LoL

No need to, but yes. And the frustration is understandable.

Wow, how many times have you dealt with customers like yourself then?

Never, because I don’t mislead my clients time and time again.

Look you’re entitled to your opinion the same as I am mine, but there’s a few people here who’re determined to derail the discussion.

The update is delayed, again. People are frustrated, and others are apathetic. There’s no need for those who don’t care to attack those who are complaining, it’s not getting anyone anywhere, and legitimate concerns and questions are being buried.

Ok you are perfect and live in a perfect world then. Everything goes exactly as you plan in life and in business. Makes perfect sense.

I think the truth is more along the lines of netgear hasn’t sold enough routers yet to make back their investment in netduma. They don’t want people to buy the cheaper netduma with the same software. Also they are hoping we will buy one of their r500s, which we are unlikely to do if we have the upgrade. So I believe we will get the upgrade when netgear accounts department say so.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but currently the Netduma does not support any backwards compatibility (nor has it ever) so why now? We were always told that once upgrading, downgrading would potentially brick our devices.

Who knows, it's a new OS so maybe licensing or other legislation's for it have changed! Im not an expert on such things! But they changed terms and conditions plenty on psn with updates to it all the time and facebook and the like! Again though this is just a theory, and there seem to be a lot of those floating around at the moment, so i think its best to just wait and see what materializes again though, thats just my opinion! Lets face it! Life has a way of throwing up unforseen curveball's all the time!

Clealry your dumb as the come.

Yes its THEIR business, but remember a business is bulit on a customer base. Which right now Netduma is pissing on their consumers/ciustomers as they keep delaying updates.

Yes the deal with Netgear was top secert but again remember Netduma business was built off the R1, so when their consumers/customers are told about DumaOS and cant wait for it only to find out Netduma have done a deal with netgear for a new router that would have DumaOS on it,  and that R1 users will have to wait for the upgrade, can you see why some are pissed?

Then to top that off they delay the upgrade again for the R1 users currently, stating it has to be albe to be backwards compat. Yet the R1 does not support any backwards compatibility (nor has it ever) so why now?

With people knowing this you can see why they have made assumptions on this matter. Also when your business is built on a product being good and affordable then Netduma need to be on the ball as it has been proven that there are routers out now that do a better job than the R1 without the DumOS (dont know about the XR500) which cost less than the R1.

So Netudmas customers are entiltled to vent or say what they feel, maybe instead of being an idiot, next time be supportive and understanding of how some of their customers feel about the delay.

"Clealry your dumb as the come"

That says it all, enough said.
