I really don’t know what to make of this... Clearly netgear are now calling all the shots whenever people mentioned the update they got shut down with arrogant comments like “it will be ready when it’s ready” we’ve been fed silly pictures with click bait titles and then this is announced looool someone called it earlier in the post “this is EA level evil” and I agree. Nice way to s**t on your loyal fan base, I can see now the netduma is going to be shafted and I’m certain netgear will call all the shots...This post takes me back... I was bitterly disappointed back then however, even I hadn’t imagined it would be this bad... BTW it’s not cool to block people for voicing their opinions.. warning do not post anything about R1 on their Facebook page it’s an instant ban as I have found out...

How about this boys, most of you know the situation that us mods are in. Which is trying to keep things civil and still answer questions about the issue at hand. And most of you also know that we don't know anymore than you guys do about the release. None of us are employed by Netduma, we try to help out on the forum, don't get paid for it, just really liked the R1 when it first came out and helped people who were having issues with the set up in their home networks.

I don't think any of us in their position with the opportunity to partner with Netgear would have done anything different than they did. It is a business at the end of the day, and anyone in business knows that you do what is best for the business and growth of the product you market. Believe it or not we didn't know anything about the Netgear deal, until it was announced. Again we aren't on the inside of their business dealings, meetings etc, were just  owners and paying customers like everyone else on here.

I myself am disappointed that the update for the R1 isn't out yet. As I've said all along I am a OG Duma fan as it has some things that the XR 500 does not. Yes I have both but my preference is still the R1 as the features that I'm really interested in are gone be on it, anti spike and anti jitter to be specific.

Again as much as we would like to "make them" tell us something, we can't. We're in the same boat as everyone else patiently or impatiently waiting for any word on the status or the actual release of the new OS. Until then we're just trying to keep the peace, which as you guys are well aware of is not an easy task at this point.

Hey fuzz x

Had a Netduma for a while, never really post but I made the effort to reset my password just to express my disappointment. Poor comms and 2 years of misinformation. You've led us all on a merry dance!

I've given up on DumaOS for the R1 and have moved onto the Nighthawk XR500. With growing family needs, household wifi was in need of a serious upgrade, so it made sense to fork out for the better hardware whilst retaining the things I like most about Netduma.

However, the lack of information here is a serious problem and if there was a viable alternative, many of us would have made the move by now. It's closing in on 2 years since the DumaOS announcement and we've seen excuse after excuse as to why it remains vapourware for the R1. Tossing out a "briefly delayed" post on the eve of the due date was, in my view, the death rattle for the R1.

I hung around for the anti-spike and anti-jitter to complement anti-bufferbloat, but my patience has worn out and it's time to put the old R1 dog to bed. Hopefully they'll materialise on the XR500. If not, someone else will beat Netduma to the punch - it's the technology we're enamoured with, not the company.

I've been a Duma fanboy since I bought in as an early adopter and have sung its praises to anyone who will listen. I get that the Netgear relationship is the priority now, but it's a shame those who helped Netduma into this position are the ones being left behind.

At the very least, offer the Duma Army a discount to upgrade to the XR500 so they can leave the R1 in the past. The hardware is clearly not up to powering DumaOS, so let's all move on and give up this charade.

well said

think Netduma is, or at least was, in financial problems as otherwise you would never ever agree to a partnership with netgear but release your own new router

it just doesnt make sense, if you have patents and groundbreaking technology then you try to market those by your own

and if it was meant to be a pr stunt then i have to tell you that there are better ways to achieve more, pretty sure that 9 out of 10 netgear XR500 users are not aware that DumaOS is done by a company that also sells routers, not a single review or article i read mentioned this, "Netgear with their new DumaOS" was usually their wording

instead Netgear has now the last word on which features are Netgear-approved and which arent, i mean honestly, what is happening here?

yeah this is a common clause in partnerships but dont you realise you re now a contractor rather than a self controlled router company?

and that you will be dropped as soon as Netgears R&D managed to come up with something equal or potentially better?

anti-spike and anti-jitter are the only reasons im looking forward to the DumaOS, i could care less about the reskin and rearrangement of buttons

the DumaOS still hasnt hit the coal mine and we literally had no status update within weeks...

honestly Netduma staff, there are free courses on business development, ecommerce, marketing and anything else you need to know to change the course of your ship, the direction you are heading towards right now is absolutly the wrong one

So many ungrateful entitled nerds here

The update costs you NOTHING, you don't deserve to complain

Can you tell me about what update you talk? Because so far there is no FREE update of DumaOS. And at this point its absolutely unclear if and when it will be released.

Thnx for locking the previous post Big_dog, I politely posted in off topics to avoid pissing you mods off but whatever, I’ll post it here instead then.

As everyone already knows the R1 update controversy surrounding a netgear product. After reading pages and pages of people going at it, it’s become clear some people do not understand why other members were so annoyed.

I was actually happy the deal with netgear went live as it meant more experience for the Duma team and a better product for the rest of us in the future this was never the issue! The problem was that we were kept in the dark about the R1’s update. Had someone came out earlier and explained there would be delays none of this would have happened. Or a second scenario had the update come live maybe a month after the net gear news I’m sure people would have been more understanding. However to suggest April 17th and then not deliver, plus to announce more delays on the day of the deadline was a terrible move and the silence since has pushed people over the edge.

Some people might say so what? Use what you have now, and that’s fair to an extent what these people do not understand is under what circumstances was the R1 bought? Well myself and for many other (I’ve read) the R1 was bought on the back of this update being announced in late 2016 or early 2017. I bought into the idea of anti jitter/spike which we’ve had no news on since. So when you advertise these sorts of things and get people excited into buying your equipment and not deliver on time (in fact over a year late) you’re going to get backlash... but the worst out of the lot is how people have been getting banned when they voiced their frustration on the matter.

In my case I used to be a sky customer and the sky wouldn’t let me use a new router and when I finally worked out how to get around it, I suffered nat issues so I decided to ditch sky and turn to virgin media where I was free to use what ever I wanted, then I realised the speed I was paying for was not supported by the Duma unless I turn some features off which defeated the purpose of having the Duma so I cancelled virgin and switched to BT. I wanted the very best online experience (which is why I bought the netduma in the first place) so I decided to splash out on a reliable modem. Which cost me £80 at the time. A few months passed and family started complaining about the wireless. Kept dropping out and speeds weren’t great and I came back to the forum to saw people complaining of similar things. So again I went out of my way to buy the very best on the market at the time to get family off my back and I bought the asus-88u cost £330. So in total I’ve spent a lot to have the Duma on. The Duma it’s self wasn’t perfect nor was it cheap and the hardware for that price was laughable but we all know that but I tried to accommodate it as much as I could as I was seeing the team on Facebook and Twitter were responsive and kept updating us about the new features. Only to find out a year down the line this is what I was looking forward to...

Edit : Other biggest selling point was the geo filter I’ve found out recently that I may not have even needed it as call of duty seem to place me on local servers 90% of the time with geo filter turned off. (Not off but open all the way as fortnite was giving me issues a few weeks back) which made the whole experience feel like a huge waste of money and time.

I hope this sheds some light on to be devs who have been non exsistsnt since April and the forum mods who delete comments and ban people. This is why we are pissed off.

People are not being banned for voicing their opinions, that's evident from the amount of posts in this thread. Some accounts have been suspended for breaching forum rules, spamming, trying to stir things up, being rude, etc. The majority of people in here are able to voice their opinion in an acceptable way and then their posts do not need to be removed nor their accounts suspended.

When someone has a suspension applied to their account or a post deleted, it should be obvious to them that they should not post the same thing again and that they shouldn't publicly question the action taken or call out the moderator that took action. They can use a proper channel if they believe a mistake was made and it will be looked into. And of course they should not send vile messages to the moderators.

It should be pretty obvious how to post without getting suspended / deleted, if people think "I wonder if I'll get suspended" then they're probably at risk of getting suspended.

I can sympathise with you on the abusive comments part however this isn’t always the case there have been times when I read someone’s comment while traveling and when I came back to quote it at a later time the comments had already been removed. The most recent example being yesterday, a guy commented saying after reading the forum comments he’s decided to not buy the R1 until the update situation was resolved. That was it he didn’t swear, nor was he aggressive it was a reasonable post. I come back on this

morning and what do you know his comment and 2 other peoples comments have been removed.

Either the rules are unclear or somone is abusing his or her power. Why not shed light onto what’s acceptable and what isn’t?

I disagree. Just because a Mod leaves some posts up that put Netduma and its associates  in a unfavorable light, does not mean some people aren't being suspended for voicing opinions. I saw the forum rules and from what I'm seeing  these guidelines are being used as an excuse to silence those who are the most adamant about being led on about upgrades for R1 that never were fulfilled. I refer to them as broken promises. Regardless, I have seen more Mod abuse to those who post in these forums than the reverse.

When someone has a suspension applied to their account or a post deleted, it should be obvious to them that they should not post the same thing again and that they shouldn't publicly question the action taken or call out the moderator that took action. Again if anything is obvious, its how horrible we have been treated by Netduma and its associates. I didn't see in the forum rules that someone couldn't publicly call out a Mod for an action they have taken against them. If a Mods actions were justified there should be nothing to hide. A suspension or a banning is a public action IMO, I dont feel that questioning it publicly is a

punishable offense either. There shouldnt be anything to hide.

It should be pretty obvious how to post without getting suspended / deleted, if people think "I wonder if I'll get suspended" then they're probably at risk of getting suspended.

It should be , but it wasn't in my case. I cant see how I got suspended recently. My last post is still up so I cant see how I broke any rules if the post was deemed unacceptable yet I received a ban right after posting none the less. Pretty inconsistent if you ask me.

I looked over this before I posted, and it seems to fall within the guidelines of acceptable posts. I am voicing my opinion and explaining why I feel this way. Its my response. It does not accuse any Mod directly of the behavior described above. I believe I can voice my opinion without punishment, which is all Im doing.
