Help with problems with my Netduma R1

Recommended Posts

I find it annoying that I have to use the open public forum for individual technical support but whatever.

First,  my geo filter display comes and goes. Meaning hosts appear and then disappear. While I'm supposedly connected to them. How do I know if this thing is even working?

Second,  my network monitor is not working. If I reboot the netduma it will work again but I don't want to interrupt my entire household's internet usage every time for something like this. By not working i mean right now it is showing me nothing on the graph.

I'm on Comcast Xfinity Cable Internet and I'm using Google Chrome. I've refreshed Google Chrome, I've deleted cache, I've even viewed the netduma OS thru Safari with the same result.

Help please.

Sorry that you're frustrated... What version software is your router currently on?

Have you tried factory resetting it?

Yes. When I initially got my R1 I played around with settings and got to the point that I couldn't remember the default, so I factory reset. This was recent.

Thanks for the response btw.

Hi Devil,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Lets go through each one:

  1. Geo-Filter - when you search for a game you should see yellow triangles showing connections being blocked from hosting your game. A host will then be chosen from within your range (the largest circle). This will tell you it's working. The 'coming and going' is probably just the game - the Geo-Filter will only show connections when they're connecting to you. So for example, if another player is connecting to the lobby the player will try to connect to you. The game will try this several times so they will appear each time this happens. It's like a knock on a door
  2. Network Monitor - this is odd. If you have factory reset it then that should clear any issues. Does it keep happening since the reset?

DumaOS will be launched in a few weeks for the R1 - this is a major firmware upgrade which resolve any ongoing issues you have here.

Sometimes no circles appear inside my radius nor triangles outside. Nothing. Sometimes while I'm connecting to the host server and/or starting a match in game. This is when I feel it's most important I be able to see/know who i'm connecting to as host, right? Sometimes I'll see circles in my radius but none are the largest circle...just all the same size small circles. Which one is my host??? I know where the dedicated server for my area is located and I know where I want to be connecting to every time but when Netduma isn't showing me--how do i know? This is after all one of the main reasons I purchased the Netduma R1.

Yes, I have experienced this lag with the network monitor as well as the geo-filter before and after I factory reseted the Netduma. The geo-filter lags repeatedly at random when viewing it--the radius animation stops moving and no circles, triangles, or whatever show. The network monitor lags almost immediately upon viewing it most of the time. I just pulled it up as I'm writing this... its frozen. Download says 0.24% and theres no moving graph. Upload says 3.59% and as well, no moving graph. Useless.

My Netduma is directly connected to my Xfinity modem and I designated the Netduma as the DMZ host. I have a wireless router and multiple switches connected to the netduma networking my house. The gaming console used to play the game and connecting with the host is a PS4 that is connected to the Netduma thru 2 switches. No other router other than the Netduma is between the console and the Netduma--only switches. I view the Netduma gui on a MacBook Air using Google Chrome. Adblock disabled on the page. I've cleared my cache/data multiple times for various reasons not just this in question. I've also viewed the Netduma gui thru Safari to test with the same results. I'm viewing the Netduma gui wirelessly connected to the wireless router that is directly connected to the Netduma.

DumaOS can't get here soon enough if that's the case.

Anymore information to help troubleshoot my problems in the meantime??

Everything setup as instructed in the first link and experiencing the randomly visible hosts. It isn't every time that I don't see the host, just randomly as I'm monitoring the geo-filter while entering matches because I suspect something is wrong (bad host experience). That's what prompted my questioning the reliability of my Netduma. Inconsistent host experience..when I added the Netduma to my network to eliminate such experiences.

Host filter ON / Port forwarding OFF and no rules (both modem/Netduma) / UPNP ON / Hyper-lane ON = random freezing Network Monitor and lagging Geo-filter (slow interface)

I usually leave Host filtering turned ON.

Could you provide a small video of the Geo-Filter in action when it's doing this please? I suspect it's behaving as intended but could be wrong.

So the other options did they resolve it?

NO. The gui is slow and laggy. I haven't been given an "option" to resolve it YET. I keep saying I've set things as instructed and what my current settings are but no one has given me any suggestions to actually try different. Network monitor is useless as more than every other time I look at it its frozen. Just about every single time I view my geo-filter it lags and freezes upon trying to change anything. It's annoying and frustrating. I shouldn't have to reboot or factory reset to get momentary results that resemble what it's suppose to look or operate like.

Hi SomDeVIL - DumaOS will be released on the R1 in just under two weeks which should resolve your slow interface issue. If this isn't ideal, please let us know when you purchased the router - you could be within warranty :)

:(  thank you Jack. And Fraser. I apologize for being rude. I'm just frustrated because when I first got this R1 (and I've praised/recommended it to others) I swear it was performing better than it is currently. I just don't understand what changed. My firmware hasn't. The weird thing is the gui lag started when I put in port forwarding previously. But I've since turned port forwarding off, removed all forwarding rules, AND I've factory reset.

Could my putting the R1 as DMZ host in my Xfinity modem have something to do with it? As far as whether the geo-filter is doing as it's suppose to...I'm going to trust that it is and maybe it's just the gui lag that's making me think otherwise. Fraser, I wasn't saying "NO" to your request for a short video btw  just to clarify that.

  • 2 weeks later...

I really didn't want to bump this but I felt I needed to share with everyone that's offered what help they could (Thank you)...  I think I've fixed my Netduma R1 slow interface issue!  :D

If you recall me mentioning that I've factory reset my R1 and that didn't resolve my dilemmas? Well.. When I factory reset my R1 last, apparently there were optimization settings changed that I wasn't aware changed! I re-disabled IPv6 in WAN/LAN settings. Enabled Local-link IPv6.   ...and now,  my geo-filter displays beautifully. Host/servers/peers show immediately and the radius scan is spinning away.  AND my network monitor starts right up and displays activity instantly--every time I visit it.
