Though if the DNS doesn't match with the router DNS it may take the router DNS as the one it uses - as it is the last hop before the internet. xlr8r Posted March 12, 2018 Share Posted March 12, 2018 just stick your preferred DNS in the router and forget everything else. on mine, i have set OpenDNS DNS servers as default. With that i can setup (for free!) internet filtering for my kids using teh OpenDNS web portal 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Likely not needed for the majority of their customers. Would recommend calling their support line and asking, they can then request it from their development team. KindaBusted Posted July 31, 2018 Share Posted July 31, 2018 I think what is being asked for is a way to turn off DNS Relay on the XR500. I would like this option as well. Using DNS Benchmark on the XR500 or the R1 can show that the DNS Relay isn't as fast as it could be. The DNS Relay can drop in ranking being slower than using just DNS. It's also been recommended not use a DNS Relay so an option to turn it off would be very welcomed! https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm Also I started using 1.1.1.1 for all my DNS needs. Guest Killhippie Posted July 31, 2018 Share Posted July 31, 2018 No netgear routers have the ability to turn off the DNS relay. Some routers let you turn it off. I believe some TP-link/ D-Link do not I’m not sure about Asus though. If you turn off DNS relay you lose the ability to use access control or some web filtering which is probably why Netgear never implemented it.If you want to get Netgears attention posting about this on the netgear forum would be the best way. I believe some R9000 users are asking for the same thing.
