Xr500 and IPV6..

Recommended Posts

I have IPV6 enabled and set to Auto Detect. My ISP supports IPV6. My XR500 gets an IP Address from my ISP along with the DNS server addresses. However, when connecting my Xbox One X to my XR500 I only get IPV4 when checking the network settings on my Xbox One X. If I bypass my router and plug my console straight into the modem and then check Console network settings I get IPV4 & IPV6 listed. I have been working on this for several hours an just not sure why it is not working.

Hello, welcome to the forum!

As far as I am aware IPv4 addresses will be used for local addresses and then the public IP address is IPv6 but in IPv6 settings is it set to use DHCP to assign IPv6 LAN addresses?

IPv6 will not give you a benefit in gaming, it is actually better to use IPv4.

It is set to DHCP for IPV6. I do understand it is not going to change anything as far as gaming goes. I had this setup with my old router and it worked fine, just can't seem to figure out why it is not offering an option to use IPV6. On another note when using the GEO Filter is strict recommended? The reason I ask is that I got disconnected from matches in Fortnite the last two nights.

Set the IPv6 for LAN to auto config instead, does that resolve it?

On the Geo-Filter you don't need to use it with Fortnite as it has region based matchmaking. We are looking to see if there is anything we can do.

I have set it to AUTO for LAN, but not for the WAN. WAN is set to AUTO DETECT.

The GEO Filter works to help get connected to a closer server, but after the connection is established I have to switch it to spectating mode.

Also, can you tell me what the strict setting does?

Are you receiving an IPv6 public IP address if you check it on https://www.whatismyip.com/my-ip-information/for example? If not even though IPv6 is supported you may not be actually receiving an IPv6 address from the ISP.

At the moment I would just use Spectating Mode for Fortnite until we can assess the Geo-Filters usability with it. Strict Mode prevents any dedicated servers being allowed for outside your radius. We only implemented this feature for Destiny primarily where it's needed to be disabled.

Xbox actually recommends the use of ipv6 for better online experience.

I just recently started dabbling with this myself. When I check ipv6 through that link posted I indeed see a ipv6 address. The thing is my boys are complaining about constant disconnects. It appears the xr500 drops the connection to all three Xbox ones at any given time. This needs to be ironed out.

IPv6 is something we're aware of and will be improving compatibility with. Could you create a new topic regarding that issue please and let us know if it's just the consoles having that issue, what games are being played and if it occurs when not using the Geo-Filter.
