IPv6 and congestion control issues

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I've recently read xbox recommends IPv6 for the best possible multiplayer experience and I have enabled it in the WAN and LAN settings. I was able to get IPv6 on my xbox, but the only problem is when I set the anti-flood sliders to my usual values and do a connection test on my xbox, the download bandwidth does not change. I even lowered the download slider to as low as 10% and my bandwidth still remains around 110 Mbps.

Just wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there was a fix to it. Thanks

Many on here have reported that their experience was worse using Ipv6 and would suggest not using it.

Hi, welcome to the forum!

As the guys above said, we've proven that IPv6 makes zero difference to gaming. IPv6 isn't supported on PS4 - it's been advertised by Microsoft as some sort of game-changer when in reality it has literally nothing to do with ping or games. It's just Xbox trying to appear to have better features than PS4.

We'll be releasing videos and blogs in the future to dispel myths like IPv6 improving gameplay. We always recommend disabling it in LAN, WAN and Miscellaneous settings for the best gameplay and speeds.

Don't use IPv6... Makes no difference

Plus it uses Teredo tunneling which isn't even real IPv6 anyway

Ok :) Thanks for the input fellas!

The reason why MS recommends IPv6 for the best possible multiplayer experience is because it is supposed to fix any NAT issues, meaning every console on your network should have it's own unique IP. Meaning no moderate or strict NAT issues.  So every console would have an open NAT and that means no party chat or connection issues with other consoles in the household. However it is still dependent on your ISP's network and how far a long they are in implementing it.  I have IPV6 enabled with no ill effects so far in gaming.

Seems like you were having the same issue as I was. The only reason I enabled ipv6 was because overnight cod started to play horribly for me and I thought ipv6 could fix it. I ended up disconnecting the netduma and connecting my xbox directly to my modem which solved the problem. I'm not sure what happened, but that is another topic. But thanks for sharing your previous post :)
