Does DumaOS support Nintendo Switch

Recommended Posts

Daft question, will the new DumaOS detect Nintendo Switch consoles as an option to configure?

Also, the R1 only had 4 slots for gaming devices. Is DumaOS limited in this respect? I have a 2 PS4's, 1 XBOX and a Switch that has 3 different MAC addresses (two docks and one WiFi connection).

Thanks

Hi Chap - not a daft question at all! You will be able to add the Switch to the Geo-Filter (and configure on any other feature e.g. QoS). The one step you may need to do is when connecting your Switch for the first time, you may need to go to the Device Manager and set the device type to 'Wii'. This is a one-time only task and very easy to do. (It may not even be required as we have autodetection for most devices including the Wii but I'm not sure if it works for the Switch yet - I'll need to check with the developers).

At the moment there is still a four-slot limit for the Geo-Filter. However, if there is demand we could consider adding more.

Do let us know if there's any other questions you have about DumaOS.

OK. Thanks for clarifying

On the game front the Nintendo servers never seemed to be added to the Netduma cloud database so I'v e alway had to manually add the matchmaking servers for games like Splatoon2 and Mario Kart. Given the Switches surging popularity might this change?

Cheers.

Absolutely, could you please provide me with these IDs? Then we'll be able to update the cloud.

We can also work with you next week if you're available so that we can do auto detection on the Switch.

Let me know once you have the IDs and also when you've be available for helping to do Auto detection on the switch.

Fraser,

I have the following ID's:-

I did have 5 more but have an issue with my R1 where it does not remember hosts after powering on/off.

I've free most nights,

Great thanks, I've fixed the white font for you. You shouldn't need to unplug the router, if you reboot from miscellaneous settings then that will save everything.

What time zone are you in? What's the earliest times you can do?

I'm in the UK. Free after 5pm weekdays. Free most weekends through the day.

I could not reboot from misc settings as I could not get my laptop to connect on a LAN port (i have wi-fi disabled), that's another problem.

Can we do it next week instead? We're super busy this week. I'll PM you my email address, could you chase us next week?

Make a post in General Support for the R1 and we can help you out with that!

Hi Happy, we're actually going to buy the Nintendo Switch instead so we can do it ourselves plus it'll be easier in the long run for game support. What are some of the most popular online games on the Switch/what do you play? I've also sent you a PM with this question.

Hey, I just bought a Nintendo switch as well, is there anything I can do to increase the download speed to it?

So long as it is hardwired to the router and your setup is Modem > Netduma > All Devices then you should receive all the speeds you require through the Nintendo :)

If you really want to increase the download speed to it just use Bandwidth Allocation to give it a larger share.

It doesn’t work like that Jack, y’all dont even have any coding for it specifically in DumaOS yet. I’m trying to use it set as a wii with upnp and disconnecting all other devices from the internet and the fastest it wants to transfer speeds is 30 down and 10 up.  I have 950 down and 55 up as my current internet speed from my modem to my desktop.  The QoS for DumaOS classifified games needs to be updated as well as the geo filter profile list.

That won't affect your speeds in anyway. Are you using WiFi or an ethernet adapter? Console speed tests are unreliable, are you getting full speeds otherwise?

Yes we're sorting that out this week.

After pulling up a bunch of videos and checking them I have the best possible solution for now.  Nintendo switch has a usb 3.0 port on the dock but the main hub hasn’t had the coding upgrade yet to run more than about 25up and 10 down.  For now it’s better to use WiFi on the xr500 with the Switch.  In the Switch’s Setting I turned off all the news pages it makes you follow automatically and switched it to airplane mode and only enabled WiFi, less internal bandwidth used on non necessary things the more for the downloads. I reserved my IP for my switch and set it as the DMZ which helped a bit and after googling tons of videos I decide to try using Googles DNS on the Switch itself and got another steady increase.  It’s pulling around 45 down and 25 up, nowhere near the speeds I’m capable but that the max I’ve been able to see, for now.  For any faster download speeds on the Nintendo Switch, gotta wait for a few more firmware updates from Nintendo...

I have 80/20 connection, with optimisation I can get 55/15 on the Switch via the Nintendo Speed test. However, I have noticed there are some settings on the Switch that do impact speed.

1. By default the Switch MTU is 1400, setting that to match your ISP MTU increased speed, in my case 1492.

2. DNS settings, don't let the Switch default to the XR500's address as the DNS server, instead hard code your preferred DNS provider, I'm using 1.1.1.1 which has given me the fastest speeds.

Hi Fraser,

1. Will we get Switch as an icon, instead of 'Wii' in device manager?

2. Can get more Switch games added in profiles?

3. When will XBOX be removed as a service reference when selecting 'Games Console'?

Thanks,

Stu

I'll ask Fraser about these once he's back in the office later today. I've already got some new icons to add to the Device Manager (Switch among them!) so hopefully we can get these added soon enough.

This information is incorrect, I run my Switch using the official HORI LAN adapter, £15 from Amazon. Most days I get about 50Mbs down and 15Mbs up from the Nintendo speed test. Best I've seen is 65Mbs down. My LAN connection is always faster than my Wi-Fi connection. You must update your MTU and DNS settings. Nintendo default to an MTU of 1400 which will lead to more packets and a slight reduction in speed. Do no let the DNS settings be provided automatically from the XR50, I'm using Cloudflare (1.1.1.1).  I get NAT type A via the XR500 without the need to set-up a DMZ.
