UK based players

When I play COD, I have the geo filter set to 1000km ping on 0 and my home location in the NW of England.

I notice I never see any UK hosts. I get UK players in the lobbies but they ever show up on the GF. But there is always a cluster of red circles around the French coast and the lobbies are always full of European players.

Is there a reason for this?

Answers on a post card please

Haha, I sent you a post card, but in case it doesn't get there...

There should be 2 dedicated servers for WWII close-by - one in Ireland and one in London. (There will be multiple server ID's for each of these locations). Is it not possible to force one with strict mode on and a smaller radius? Seems like another case of WWII's localisation being completely off, or it could be those servers are down for maintenance. Have you ever been able to connect to them?

Hi Jack, thanks for the reply. I don't play WWII, this is when I play the others IW /BO3. Always seem to connect to the European servers never the UK just wondered if there was a specific reason the game connects you to servers away from the UK.

And thanks for the PC :)

I see zero logic behind prelobby host selection. Most are on terrible connections which are either jittery/clearly congested or on WiFi, so you're often gonna get 30ms-80ms to these hosts even if they're near the server you get <10ms to.

I played a game of IW yesterday, was on the UK server at 7.1ms, and the game gave host to a Kuwaiti. Auto pinged the host before the transfer to the server and got 139ms. Six other players in the lobby, including me to make seven, were in the UK or France, and they gave host to one of the five Arabs in the game. Lol k

Connection based matchmaking... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's pretty outrageous. It's a shame these situations are beyond our control but often they are. That's some really bad P2P logic right there!

It's not even P2P mate. If you watch the geofilter while looking for a lobby in any CoD from BO3 onwards, you'll see the game picks a prelobby host when forming the lobby, before transferring to a server. I'm almost 100% sure the connection of the lobby host affects the gameplay on the server because I don't see any other reason for such bipolar gameplay in recent CoDs. You can play 50 games on the same server with the same latency, with next to no jitter, and it'll play wildly different from game to game. Absolute nonsense...

Well once DumaOS is on the R1 and we can get back to innovating, we'll get Iain to put his mind to it. There's bound to be solutions we can bring to the table, and we'll have the perfect platform to do it on. Info like this is fantastic and will definitely help us to build new features, so thanks for all the research you guys do!
