Quick question for thinkbroadband users

Anyone ever seen anything like this before? I had IPv6 enabled just messing around with settings, set up a monitor (it correctly recognised an IPv6 address when setting up), and after a few minutes it looked really weird - a totally different latency plot and then total packet loss a few minutes later. I went to set up another monitor and this time it showed an IPv4 address with the usual x.x.x.x format, and after a few minutes of that running it looked normal, as you'll see in the first screenshot.

 

I set up another monitor, this time getting an IPv6 address, and it was a mess again as you'll see in the second screenshot.

 

What on earth is going on here? Is my router simply incapable of using IPv6 properly or what? Seems odd considering ping tests and PingPlotter are showing my line behaving as usual! I should add I've tried this several times now and the discrepancies are consistent; the ugly plot on the right isn't due to me using the internet while forgetting to keep sliders down at 70% or anything lol. Some of the IPv6 ones have shown blue lines through the roof, or even entire blocks of red that have some weird pattern of green running through "gaps" in the red at the bottom.

If PP isn't showing the same, maybe the TB servers aren't setup or don't like ipv6.

I'd try the same, see what happens for me but I don't think the Draytek is ipv6 capable.

Cheers. I'm only using a cheap TP Link modem so if it works with that, I'm sure it'll work with the Draytek

Curiously I only connected over WiFi with PingPlotter as I didn't have a cable handy. I was confused by the total lack of jitter. The final hop ping was moving 0.2ms at most and my R1 is upstairs on the other side of the house haha

 

Oh and this is from the thinkbroadband site mentioned just before you set the BQM up:

 

"You may provide a hostname, IPv4 or IPv6 address to monitor"

 

Seems weird they'd say that if they can't accurately monitor IPv6 :/

 

Google tells me it supports ipv6 but I couldn't find any options for it on the GUI.

Anyway here's what I mean about the weird blocks of red (not completely solid)  :huh:

 

Bet IW plays alot better now huh ;) :P

 

EDIT : Looked again, despite Google telling me otherwise, there are zero mention of ipv6 in the Draytek GUI so can only assume it doesn't actually support it.

Umm... no. Surprisingly. LOL actually I've recently been watching my pal on cable stream on WiFi while playing at the same time and he gets faster hit reg than I've ever had on wired so I think I'm going to just give up soon. I don't think there's anything left for me to try

That's a shame. I always thought Drayteks were the expensive feature packed alternatives to the basic Huawei if you were in the market for a VDSL modem lol

 

I guess not haha. I even upgraded to the latest firmware for it and still nothing about ipv6.

I guess it doesn't matter too much. We're probably a long way off IPv4 being totally phased out.

 

From what little I've discovered about IPv6 it will apparently route better/faster and there's no NAT to worry about either. Shame there's no benefit to using it on PS4 as it's not fully supported yet according to this:

 

"It now appears that the PS4 has basic IPv6 support. The PS4 does obtain a IPv6 address but at this point it appears as though its not usable. Tests through http://ipv6-test.com fails. Putting an ipv6 address in the ps4 web browser results in a "not supported" error. https://ipv6.google.com also fails with a not supported. Lastely I tried the IPv6 of my linux server on my home network and that failed as well. **UPDATE: The IPv6 address does respond to pings. IPv6 DNS Support still isnt exist.

 

All tests indicate that even though the ps4 obtains an IPv6 address, it is not usable. While its dissappointing that its not usable it is a good sign that basic support is there."

Xbox One supports it but wether it works properly, who knows. Anyway, have seen peoples on here say ipv6 makes games play worse lol.
