Charter Internet {Terrible}

Welcome to the dark side bro lol. I've been saying this about spectrum(time warner) ever since I had them and started doing my testings. It's the merger no doubt, and I've ALWAYS had bad routing and the pings NEVER stable but I do have so low pings from time to time. Bufferbloat I'm always gonna have no matter what I do, in DSLreports, there's always gonna be some color red, yellow, but I do get it low as low as 23ms idle, and around 25ms for download and upload. But doing a pingplotter, never going to have that stable close to flatline ping on time warner(spectrum) cable connections. Always see ping spikes/jitter, but just something I've got used to in hopers perhaps DumaOS would be able to alleviate some of this as wishful thinking as that may be on my part, I doubt it. But none the less, Duma has been good to me and I have been having some pretty good games, GEOF. helps as well. But As far as having NO color in my bufferbloat chart as I see many are able to rid of on their connections with Duma CC and some other QOS. It just clear to me that it's my ISP i.e Time Warner(Spectrum) is a no go for gaming. At least Xfinity have a gaming package, time warner(spectrum) is focus on bandwidth(right now) it seems. So yes, I can get my ping down, but as far as being "stable" or "no" bloat at all. I cannot on this  ISP connection lol. I wish you the best of luck bro in trying to get them to see what you see. If it's not broken, and you have internet. That's as far as you're getting  help with them even goes with some of the members on their forum, time warner that is. I don't know about charter, but since it's a merger. Support should be similar now. But again I don't know just my guess.

After playing on charter for basically ever, I would really like to try playing on something else. The only CoD released is Ghosts that gives me good play experience and even that can sometimes be off. At least it plays well 90% of the time, but there are only about 1500 on at any given time I play anymore. MW3 plays well if I load down my connection. Rest of releases play like trash. It's not even funny to play so I just don't. It's a shame that is potentially my ISP that ruins the experience but without a direct A/B in house I can't verify if say DSL would be any better for gaming nor would I spend another $30/mo or whatever just for something I rarely do anymore.

It's cable loony and it's Spectrum.I have the same issues and most who have cable do it's unstable by nature.

It's to busy and oversold everywhere it's installed.

Like I had said before my ADSL at 13 / 2 was so much more stable than the 115 / 7 I get now.

I spoke to someone at charter and they told me, that it I should only be connect to the charter spectrum network. they said even though charter bought bright house and time warner, they still handle their customers. she didn't know why I was connected to time warner or amazon network.

everybody I know says dsl is way better, you just have to get the wires replace a lot due to weather.

I'm sure the repeal of net neutrality is only going to make things worse for everyone.

I'm not so sure about that. During NN my connection had gotten progressively worse. During NN there wasn't as much incentive for them to keep up their lines as they could be treated like telephone lines at any time (trust me, you don't want them to be treated like a public utility).

I've worked in manufacturing last mile trunk lines, network cable and currently fiber optics for almost 20 years. When NN was repealed I saw a huge spike in orders. Right now I'm supposed to be on Christmas vacation and I'll be going in to work Thursday and Friday (8 days early) to work

You have a horrible cable line if your connection was more stable with dsl than cable. There is absolutely no reason why that should happen.

That's not what NN is... Unless Activision. Or whoever wants to pony up for better lines through ISP, which they won't, no QoS will save compromised traffic.

Now things have a real potential of getting far worse. We will see what happens, but I seriously doubt anything will be in the best interest of their customers let alone stabilized latency.

I was talking more to the point of the effect of NN. Regulations don't just typically begin and end. They typically begin and build. What motivation does an ISP have to spend millions on line maintenance when it's possible that they might not really own that line in the future?

I highly doubt things will get worse after NN. Competition is actually starting to build in that market. The heart of competition isn't offering crappier service.

There is no question DSL is much more stable than cable, it's not even in the same ball park.

Your in the business,I'm not... but I know why it happens and have had both and run extensive tests on both lines and again it's night and day according to PP and other methods to test my lines stability.

But I'm glad to hear you have a cable line that is stable, that gives the rest of us hope.

Sorry, but that is absurd. There is absolutely no competition and now there are actually more rules against competition. It's disallowed municipalities from offering competition. Repeal of NN is the worst thing ever done to the internet. No NN allows ISP to throttle sections at their whim and leaves the consumer vulnerable to actions of greedy ISPs.

What should have happened is the opposite by forcing ISP to upgrade to higher levels and maintain their monopolies limiting fees. It's absurd I have exactly one choice for internet and if they do start throttling things what recourse do I have?

Aside from being a CEO or shareholder for an ISP, being against NN is cutting off your nose to spite your face.
