PS4 is NAT Type 2 (open) but ww2 is Strict

Recommended Posts

I have all my ports forwarded properly. I was moderate earlier today.Turned off my ps4 to go eat dinner. Got back on and the Netduma GUI was extremely slow. I rebooted the netduma from the settings page and and it solved that problem. However, now ww2 shows that i have nat type strict. If i check connection status on my ps4 settings and i am type 2.

Any suggestions?

When i had upnp i couldn't get in the games. once i port forwarded i could connect. then it randomly went strict. didnt change anything.

Yea for whatever reason manual port forwarding stopped giving me open and went to moderate so I went ahead and enabled upnp and it opened it.

when u reenabled upnp did u disable all your manual port forwarding?

Make sure you have set a static IP for the console in DHCP lease, otherwise your console IP might change (which sounds like what may have happened) then your port forwards won't work

PS4 IP hasn't changed. I have it static already... Only my NAT on ww2 switches to strict. When I first get on the game it is moderate. I play a game or two and it switches to strict.

Sounds like you're getting conflicts. Just to double check, have R1 in DMZ, UPnP & port forwarding disabled on ISP hub. UPnP OR port forwarding enabled on the R1. upnp forwarding disabled in R1 misc settings.

Thats my exact setup.

If you disable the Geo-Filter before rebooting your Netduma and console, do you still have a closed NAT? Also, which modem do you have? Some routers are more finicky to get the DMZ functioning than others. Also, how many consoles do you have (all devices should be connected to the Netduma)?

I am having the exact same problem! Would love to know how you fix it.

Ah right, no worries Joel. I'd keep an eye on this thread to see if we manage to resolve it, though I'd recommend opening your own thread and state your issue and what you've tried to do to fix it. Ensure you try everything suggested here if possible.

yes i still have moderate/strict nat when geofilter is off. it switches between the two. as for the dmz, that is setup correctly. ps4 is the only console.

Hard turn off the console
Disable Geo-filter on Duma
Hub in modem mode or R1 WAN IP from device manager into the DMZ on hub
UPnP & port forwarding disabled on the hub
UPnP OR port forwarding enabled on the Duma, not both
UPnP forwarding disabled in Duma miscellaneous settings
Boot up console - check network settings - should be open or NAT Type 2 (open)
Boot up game - should be open

If using port forwarding use these ports:

TCP: 80,443,3074,3478-3480

UDP: 3074,3478-3479

Will try it... why does upnp get disabled in misc settings?

UPnP forwarding in Settings > Misc isn't the same as UPnP in Settings > UPnP.

UPnP forwarding is used in a two-router setup where DMZ isn't being used. You should be able to get an open NAT without enabling this.

So since I am using a DMZ, i disable the the misc setting for upnp? If i have it checked in the normal section, should i disable my manually forwarded ports?

Update... Made the recommended changes and still had strict NAT on ww2. Although now I couldn't connect to anyone. Put it back to where it was before for the time being. Still looking for solution to get moderate/open NAT on ww2

Sounds silly but I've been here myself scratching my head until it almost bled so it's worth ruling out lol. You haven't mentioned whether you're wired or wireless so I guess it's worth a punt ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do you have your console showing as two different devices in your device manager because you've connected it via both ethernet cable and WiFi at some point? If you're using port forwarding double check those rules are assigned to the correct IP address.

Otherwise ISP modem/router combo > R1 in ISP modem DMZ + UPnP or UDP 3074 forwarded on R1 *OR* standalone modem > R1 with UPnP or UDP 3074 forwarded on R1 have always given me type 2 on PSN and open in game.

If you use UPnP, check that 3074 is actually listed on the UPnP page. UPnP always worked for MW3 and Ghosts a few years back but it wasn't until BO3 that UPnP sometimes wouldn't work and would either forward 9308 alone or nothing at all. As long as UDP 3074 is covered you should be open, assuming you don't have anything weird going on with your modem or ISP combo.

Even if I randomly check UPnP forwarding despite using DMZ, that hasn't ever stopped me from seeing an open NAT.

If you have open on the console then it is the game. Open up MWR if you have it then go back to WW2, is it open now?

Nope. NAT is Strict on MWR as well. My PS4 is still NAT Type 2.....

Just to rule this out completely, please disable UPnP on both the Modem and your Netduma and then manually open these ports on the Netduma:

TCP: 80,443,3478-3480
UDP: 3478-3479
TCP & UDP: 3074

Try setting these rules with your console switched off, then reboot the Netduma from Miscellaneous settings and switch on your console (make sure the Geo-Filter is disabled). You could also try setting a different Static IP on the PS4.

Ports forwarded correctly and done exactly as described. UPnP disabled as well on both netduma and modem. console has been off and geo filter off as well. (However when they are disabled i am unable to find matches at all.)

Only thing i haven't tried is switching static ip of ps4. I don't see why that would make a difference though.

Still worth noting. For the first few games I am moderate NAT type on game, then it switches to strict and i can't fix it.

Do you lose connection/get kicked back to the main menu while playing, have to reconnect to online services and only then do you notice you've lost the open NAT? I only ask because at times I've disabled port forwarding to work around the GUI lag, forgot to enable UPnP, and retained what is reported as an open NAT until I reboot the game. I can even pull my ethernet cable, plug it back in, reconnect to online services and it'd still be open in game somehow lol

I'm just wondering if maybe your PS4 IP could be changing constantly for some reason.
