How Well Does The Geofilter Actually Work? (2 part question)

Recommended Posts

PART 1: I've been doing some testing/experimenting with my R1 and WW2 lately and things don't seem to be working as they should be.

I wanted to test different servers to see which ones had populated Headquarters and which were empty so I started at my home server (I'm from Toronto but most often get put on the New Jersey server) and my HQ is always populated with 30-50 people.

I then disabled my geofilter, shut down the WW2 app on my PS4, moved my home location to California, reactivated the geofilter, then booted up WW2 again. In theory the router should now force the game to connect me to a server in California but it doesn't. I don't connect to anything at all. I end up in an empty HQ and if I try to find a match it says 0 potential games found. No servers or hosts show up on the geofilter at all.

By the way, Strict Mode is on during these tests.

What exactly is going on here? Why can't I connect to a server in California, or Florida, or Texas (I've tried several places).

PART 2: I decided to Temp ban the New Jersey server to see if I can get on the Ontario/Quebec server with hopes to having faster ping. The problem is the New Jersey server wont block for some reason. I have tried to Temp ban it several times and it says it works but it still connects me to that server when I boot the game. The only way I can prevent myself from connecting to New Jersey is if I have it outside of my filter range but then what is the point of the Temp Ban feature if it doesn't work?

Tl;DR

Why am I still connecting to servers that I have Temp Banned?

Why can't I connect to any servers except for ones that are near my actual, real home location (not my geofilter home)?

I think you have to turn your console off, move your home location on the geo-filter then boot everything back up to be able to force a server in a different location if I remember correctly, it’s been a while since I’ve done it.

There will be lots of servers in the same location in NJ. If you take a note of the server ID then temp ban it, search for another game the server ID should be different (even though it shows in the same location as the server you temp banned)

I'm having the same issue, 0 games found. I can disable the geo-filter and it won't even show me server locations. I have my home set to Georgia so that I can get the Atlanta, Georgia server and nothing. I'm not super frustrated but I'm not sure why things are so out of whack.

I would agree with PollutionBlues above - you could afford to expand your radius to around 1000km, your radius is extremely small to be able to properly connect and find games easily.

I'm trying to keep the radius small so that I can just connect to this specific server. I got it to work 1 time last night and after one game it will never connect me to a game. I also don't live in the state I'm trying to set my filter on but I've read this is not an issue and people do this alot to force a server specific connection.

It is possible to force a server in a different place. Are you still getting the yellow triangle on the server you are trying to force?

I have the entire state of Georgia in the filter and I'm starting to find people now but can't get a full lobby.

The Duma can’t do anything about who else gets connected to a server, that’s down to the game. Sometimes it takes a bit of time to populate a lobby when you force yourself onto a server.

I'm aware, things are starting to smooth out for me now and I'm finding consistent games. Thanks for your help and input. Cheers!
