HMA VPN Servers

Recommended Posts

Hey guys new here just got my netduma router it's great so far.

I was just wondering if you guys no any good EU servers what don't spike lag constantly, i'm one of those players who gets hit off a lot cause I play comp and would like a good server to play on, all the UK ones so far i've tried spike quite a lot, any of you guys know any.

Not sure this is the right sub-forum but thanks in advance!

Hi Blakey, welcome to the Netduma forums :)

I would recommend not playing through a VPN for a few reasons. 1) it increases latency, 2) there is lots of jitter like you said, 3) You can't get an open NAT with HMA.

I suppose if you really want to play with one then it would be better to play with the one closes to you.

And I moved this thread to the correct sub forum :)

Miss out the Irish server and I use a 316km geo from the Scottish boarder to the south coast uk and that work well for most games :)

Wouldnt hurt to try it for yourself.

What's the server name? It's just i get hit offline 2/5 games on comp and it's annoying.

I think he's talking about a HMA VPN server :)

Yeah just a good server to connect to while i'm playing gfin/gbs/wagers so I don't get flooded, can even be german etc aslong as no lag spikes or little spikes.

Well probs the server closest to you use going to be best. I you want a good VPN then HMA is probably not the best. You might be better off searching specifically for a gaming VPN - you should have less latency and jitter with one of those.

I'm sure if someone games using the HMA VPN then they will be able to advise on a good server :)

Hi Blakey, We are considering running a VPN server if you're interested in trialling?  I honestly don't know of any that have very good latency thats the only reason we're considering doing it. But a google search for different providers should help.

  • 2 weeks later...

My experience with HMA was similar to yours blakeyb in that there were freezes/lag spikes every several seconds.. in between those spikes the game-play was actually very smooth compared to playing without the VPN enabled.   I could not find a server that didn't spike so stopped the HMA service.  About to try a different provider to see how it goes.

Iain, I would be interested in trialing your VPN once you've developed it.  Cheers.

I think this may be to do with the fact their free VPN was insanely popular, which theyve since removed. When its been sorted we'll make a thread. For now I'll lock this thread :)

Yeah HMA has pretty bad contention I imagine. If you're not getting attacked often I'd highly recommend not using a VPN though for gaming.
