should I go with at&t internet, which is 18 download and 1.5 upload. With an dedicated line with a ping of 30.

Are stay with charter, that gives me a 100 down 5 upload, with a ping around 9,20 on the St.Louis server or 20 on Chicago server.

But the thing is with charter, ever since they bought time warner which own bright house. when I do a visual trace route, it's so many hops it goes through.

I'm send screen shots later.

I also have spectrum (charter) and it's garbage IMO.It's cable and that is always the last choice for a gamer,I know they are trying to improve their network but it's still unstable at best.

Your stability will always be dependent on what your neighbors are doing with their network as their on the same line along with your own TV.

I had the AT&T ADSL line for a year and it was great, always a smooth flat line and YES my gaming was better because of it.But it was a dedicated gaming line, the only thing on it was my PS4 and my laptop for the duma.

I left the spectrum line for the rest of the house as there is no way my house was gonna function on the 13 / 1.5 speeds of AT&T.

So if you have a busy household with kids and a spouse that spend a lot of time on the net,I would suggest leaving the spectrum line and just adding the AT&T as a dedicated gaming line.it's a simply process for them to install it.

But you're gonna have to use their modem / router combo which is IMO another negative. You'll just have to put the duma in passthrough mode on their equipment and you'll be good to go.

But cable is a lot faster but if you're doing it to have better gaming...quality or quantity. All that speed doesn't mean anything if your line is full of jitter and unstable all the time.

was it the 18 Down and 1.5 upload?. and was it the actually speeds that was advertise for it?.

looney.I actually had the 12 / 2 plan and ended up getting 12.5 / 1.5 but again it was strictly a dedicated gaming line. And I would still have them but after the year was up they were supposed to be able to give me  60 / 5 speeds as they were upgrading the lines to enable higher speeds to customers.Or they could have double bonded me as I was close enough to the hub but they didn't and wouldn't and the speeds stayed the same except they wanted to charge me another 70 dollars a month after my introductory year was up.

I have no complaints about the service and stability of the line but no way in hell I was paying that extra money for those speeds. But I know they have upgraded in my neighborhood and they are across the country but I'm gonna wait and see what the neighbors say about the service before I switch over to AT&T again.

I talk to the ppl at at&t, and they told me. that the line is dsl, but it's fiber wire. so after 12 months the try and charge you 70 for an 1.5 upload?.

Yeah it's fiber, fiber wire, etc whatever they are calling it these days.the bottom line is it comes comes into your house as a phone line (at least mine did anyway),no you don't have to have a land line, it's just the way they bring it inside the home.

And yeah they basically tried to triple the price after my 1 year introductory offer was over,I got the first year for 21.99 plus 7 dollars a month for their POS modem / router combo and yes you have to use it as it's proprietary equipment. It's far from high quality IMO but that's another thing you'll hav to consider before you pull the trigger on AT&T ADSL line.

You can't use your own stuff looney.

That's what I was saying, they use a modem / router that's proprietary equipment...which means you have to use it as it's the only thing that works with it.

that's bs. I can't buy a modem that works with their internet smh.

Yeah I have my own equipment but couldn't use it with their stuff, and the modem / router combo isn't really that great.

You'll have to put the duma in passthrough mode as they don't have bridge mode.

Just don't want you to go into it blind and then be disappointed when you find out from them.

Thread title kind of made me chuckle... As if there is even a choice for ISP except in most rare occasion. Been using Charter for past 15 years. AT&T isn't even a realistic option for a household really. Interesting to read about using them as a dedicated gaming line but that's about all you can use it for. Price is insane though. Main reason why this whole net neutrality shouldn't even be a debate, but here we are about to lose a lot solely based on the perversion of this one guy who doesn't even understand the internet.
