people downloading or using my internet. why does my ping when high? the more usage the high the ping gets.

Are you using another router before the Netduma?

Is your PC wired or wireless?

Is your congestion control set on 70%?

Don't use 8.8.8.8 it's pretty unstable, I like to ping comcast.com without www. I've never had any packet loss to it and the pings for me are stable around 10ms

Well if you use a router before the Netduma then that's why other people make your ping spike. All traffic should pass through the Netduma

No, not before the Netduma, my second router is for wifi only. Modem>Netuma>Asus.

That doesn't looks like local congestion (other people), it just looks like a bit of jitter.

Please run the same test straight from your modem (nothing else connected to your network at all) and post the pic up here.

And I also wouldn't use 8.8.8.8 and I would set it to 1 second intervals. I personally never had an issue with 1 second.

The suggestions above are great; please let us know how the test ColonicBoom suggested goes.

Okay I see.

It's just because when you get up to a ping that high, jitter will be small in comparison to the base ping.

If you think about it, 5ms of jitter on a 100ms ping is only a 5% spike but 5ms jitter on a 10ms ping is a 50% spike - so the same amount of jitter looks like a tiny variation when it's actually the same.

You need to ping something closer mate, you're pinging something a long way away to get 100ms so we can't really judge from that.

What would you say it's a good site to ping?

So I guess using CC on the Netduma should help with the jitter that I see all over the place when my network is utilized right?

Yes CC definitely helps local network congestion if your using it) 70/70 and tweak from there, but as said above I would ping something other than 8.8.8.8 as it can be dicey at best.

Not sure the jitters caused by you pinging something so far away, your lines good since the modem change.

Maybe try pinging your cable company, spectrum.com that's my ISP and what I ping.

Yeah when I'm testing my ping I keep it on 70/70 so I know that nobody can really influence the results by saturating my line.

Me too.

But the one I asked for is straight from the modem

This doesn't look too bad to me. 2ms of jitter is good, and apart from a couple of spikes it's a clean connection. 25ms is a pretty great ping.

So if you connect your Netduma, with your setup Modem > Netduma > All devices, and you run a pingplotter test wired to a PC to the same IP, what are the results?

If you get more jitter with the Netduma, I'd say it's highly unlikely to be related to the router - rather the wire connecting the Netduma to the Modem or the wire to the PC. It's always worth switching out your wires to make sure in these situations.

I think if I test it it'd be about the same, the thing that I was asking is if I have CC at 70 both ways why I see spikes even with CC at 70 both ways when everyone is using my internet. Shouldn't CC at 70 stops the spikes? Or just normal just to see a little bit of spikes when everyone is abusing,(lol) my internet.

Use reactive and test again :)
