question about congestion control and AP mode router

Recommended Posts

Hello all and any feed back is appreciated.  I recently upgraded my modem from arris SB6190 that I bought 2 months ago to a TP-Link 7610.  My game plays have improve tremendously with my current setup.  I have cable from wall going into TP-Link Modem>Netduma> Asus 66Ru router (Wifi Only) AP Mode.

My question is when I try the recommended setting 70/70 congestion, I still lose gun fights that I should be winning.  Yesterday I tried something that (I am Mod Box) said in another thread and lowered my congestion to 25/25.   The game play was 95% lag and jitter free ( went 37-2).  I did a speed test (speedtest.com) and my connection said 16mps down and 1.95 Upload.   Had about 15 games where the lag was barely notice. Question(1) With me lowering my connection this low and having a second router, will it effect anyone else trying to stream movies or youtube.  Question (2) is this connection still to fast the reason Im still having slight lag from time to time.  I pay for 110down/10up, but only get 65/9, so that's what I put in my bandwidths settings (reactive algoth).    This is the best my connection has been since buying this modem, but still have inconsistency from time to time.  Infinite Warfare is the game im playing.

1- Congestion control has no effect on winning or losing gun fights unless your line is being saturated and causing your ping to move.

2- If you're paying for 100/10 (I assume you're on Comcast?) and only getting 65/9 then either something isn't configured right or your line is absolutely terrible and your ISP needs to be out ASAP to fix it.

Hey, welcome to the forum. Try inputting these settings for your speeds:

- 70/70 Anti Flood

- Share excess enabled
- Reset device prioritisation & apply
- Disable IPv6 in WAN, LAN & misc
- Disable deep packet in misc
- Enable turbo mode
- Ensure the ethernet cables you're using connecting the R1 to hub & R1 to PC are Cat5e+/can handle your speeds.
- Do a wired speed test from a PC

MoD BoX is correct in saying you shouldn't notice the difference in-game with congestion control unless you're downloading huge amounts of data which is affecting your ping. The gameplay will vary with each lobby you're in. What ping do you get to the game?

Some people have success throttling down to less than 70/70. The reason we recommend 70/70 is that it tends to give enough room to prevent issues. 25/25 will give you a huge amount of room, making bottlenecks etc almost impossible, though will sacrifice a lot of bandwidth in the process.

I have WOW as a ISP. If I enable turbo mode, my speed are a little faster 81/10. So I should just play with turbo mode enable?

Another thing, download pingplotter last night and notice that jitter is coming from my daughter streaming music and wife watching Netflix. I tried 70/70 congestion but pingplotter still showed jitter and latency coming from them. Maybe I'm not using it right.

When testing speed test thru the R1, if you have congestion controls set for defaults, then speeds will show slower of course. I would set the congestion controls to 99 or 100% then speed test. You should see to spec speeds. When controls are set lower, then speed test will be impacted as they are handling bandwidth and over head on how they are set.

Always be sure to LAN cable speed test with the R1 router. Also do a quick test with a PC directly wired to the ISP modem as well.

I cannot get pictures to post to this for some reason, is the and email I can send you my internet diagnosis test?

try to use the netdoma only without the asus connected as EVERYTHING should really run through the duma to get the benefit. I had an asus and it is crap (i had your model) and I removed it so i was just using the netduma and it changed completely and that is where your jitter maybe coming from if your daughter is connecting to the asus over wifi.

Although your household maybe connecting via 5gh for faster speeds, using 2.4 is more reliable and has a stronger signal. Better to sacrifice a bit of wifi speed and get better reliability and stability.
