I believe Zennon recommends the "Astro mix amp with the Phillips X2's and Mod mic"

I use the Astro A40 gen 2 with mix amp and I like them. Nothing special honestly.

You would happen to know how to mod the mic? Because I have the X1's with an Astro Mixamp but no mic setup currently.

I have both, both are very good. Think my old mixamp and A40s are the originals, really old ones (still works fine after years), and the new mixamp pro tr with X2s.

'ModMic' is just the name of the product, made by AntLion, it's not actually a modification if that's what you mean (sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick).

The MixAmp should have come with a 'Y' splitter, you just plug that into the mixamp. It has two ports/sockets/holes in, one for the headphone cable and one for the mic.

Then the mic just sticks onto the side on the headphones with a magnet or some sticky stuff.

This is a way cheaper option as you won't have to buy any new headphones, just the splitter (assuming it's gone walkies by now) and the ModMic.

Which mixamp you got Buck?

The Mixamp Pro TR connects to the console over usb so there are no other cables.

The older mixamps need to connect to the pad, on xbox at least - not sure about ps4.

That's the only reason I replaced my setup really.

Xbox One has a different sized/shaped port in the pad (to the Xbox 360) and all the adaptors I could find stuck out too far beyond the back of the pad and stabbed me in my belly.

It caused a lot of crackling and my belly wasn't happy either, after this many years gaming I wasn't about to (and probably couldn't) change the position I sit in to game.

It's the older version. Not the Mixamp Pro TR.

I'm sure that'll work, I was confusing myself. Zen has an older gen mixamp in his setup.

I don't think which model mixamp matters as far as the splitter and the mic goes but I don't know if the mixamp connects to ps4 differently than to xbox.

That splitter ships with the mixamps now just so you can use 3rd party headsets and mics.

if you go for the astro's with mixamp tr or mine which are the astro a50 3rd gen you can adjust several settings on your mic not just chat up n down as theres several adjustments you can make for background noise etc etc. You do all the setting adjustments viaa pc software called astro command center (many vids on youtube).
