You don't get my point..

i was just saying that we paid a software license and the maintenance update that must come with it.

do you get the difference between major release and maintenance update (bug fixe, minor cosmetic, security patch etc..) ?

look at this page :

https://mikrotik.com/download/changelogs, there is release very month almost.

or for the router edge lite platform:

13 EdgeRouter ERLite-3/ERPoe-5 Firmware v1.9.1 Firmware 2016-12-22

12 EdgeRouter ERLite-3/ERPoe-5 Firmware v1.9.0 Firmware 2016-08-08
11 EdgeRouter ERLite-3/ERPoe-5 Firmware v1.8.5 Firmware 2016-06-13
10 EdgeRouter ERLite-3/ERPoe-5 Firmware v1.8.0 Firmware 2016-02-26

This is how often software are released on very similar platform.

I already said this 6 months ago, but Netduma as a company should  really look at its release management process because

it is highly tied to customer traction and interest in the product, year long hype cycle isn't good for anyone.

and i'm not even starting on the security patch that the underlying linux base should get even if the device isn't supposed to be reachable from outside, ALL you home internet traffic flows through it.

Okay so Mikrotik has 160 employees.

Ubiquiti (the people who make the EdgeRouter) has 537 employees...

Know how many Netduma has? 1 who can code (correct me if I'm wrong). So quit your whining and bitching because you can't get your update fast enough lol it's ready when it's ready. Nobody promised you a set schedule for updates when you bought the router.

TBH I can see both sides here, I think people do have the right and is expected they are upset that the DumaOS is delayed.  Yes you can say it is a "free upgrade" and what not but when a company or someone does not meet your expectations you get disappointed.  I bought the Netduma in November of last year and at first was not impressed with it and I felt it was actually worse than my Asus RT_AC66r.  I was going to sell it but heard about the new DumaOS and said I will wait and see how it performs before selling it.  However I gave it another try in December and noticed a slight improvement over the Asus on games like Destiny, I stopped play COD awhile ago which I would think be a much bigger difference.

So right now, I plan on keeping the Netduma however I got  crazy good deal on a netgear r7000 that I am going to try out.  Albeit it is old but it does have a 1GHZ dual core processor and is still rated a top tier router even today on SNB.

Anyway, I just kind of wish Netduma never gave a schedule for release and just said "we are working on a new DumaOS firmware with no ETA but working as fast as we can"

Only thing I wish they would do different now is give us more specific details why there is a delay besides bugs. I don't even care about seeing screen shots just a good update.  One reason being I am super nervous the hardware can not handle the processing power the DumaOS needs.

Another thing I wonder is why doesn't Netduma just license the firmware (software) to other Flash routers like Asus and Netgear?  Different topic but just speaking my thoughts here.

At the end of the day as other people have mentioned the Netduma does do what it says for the most part but then again I really do not see many connections issues with any of my routers.  I wish I played more true P2P games like COD so that way I could give a more fair assessment.

the problem with you fan boys is that whatever arguments in thrown at you , you just try to destroy any divergent opinion.

i stated my opinion as a consumer. you did.. in the end if you want Netduma to succeed , the product will need to be more polished, have more regular updates.

right now it is a glorified UI and nothing you can do with :

- a mikrotik router (any of them)

- openwrt or any supported linux distribution..

- enable fq_codel , sfq or similar queuing to deal with bufferbloat.

sysctl -w net.core.default_qdisc=fq_codel

sysctl -p

- configure tc qdisc (queue discipline) for congestion control.

- xtables geoip module for Geo filters and ipset usage.

example:

ipset destroy GeoFiltered
ipset -N GeoFiltered hash:net
ipset -A GeoFiltered $IP_OF_PS4
-A FORWARD -p udp -m set --match-set GeoFiltered dst -m multiport --ports 3074:3080 -m geoip --source-country AP,AF,EG,IR,TR,IQ,SA,YE,SY,AE,TZ,IL,JO,LB  -j LOG_DROP

NETDUMA is good in that it provides a simple UI to do all this.. so that's what i paid.. the UI and unfortunatly it is updated like once every 18months it appears.

ok now i'm will stop answering to fanboy who aren't able to have a simple discussion or the start of an understanding about what is provided by netduma.

Tell me how facts are wrong?

You literally contradict yourself in one sentence. You want updates as fast as possible, but want them to be polished. Can you code? Can you write a whole new router firmware by yourself with no bugs, 100% polished?

I've had my Netduma router since it was released in December 2014.. Since then I believe we got 17 updates which brought us to where we are now - a stable, and perfectly fine router. The "problems" which most people have with it are their own faults 99% of the time. So to sit here demanding an update when one isn't really needed, just makes you look like a fool. Besides, if you can simply recreate your netduma with any mikrotik router and openwrt then why are you even here looking for an update?

I already did and i am perfectly satisfied with my solution.. it is based on a fitpc4 running ubuntu and all what i listed previously.

I just check regularly if my investment get any update, you should be glad i didn't gave up on it or that would be bad because i think i'm exactly market target for stuff like this.

Netduma being 1 or 100 employees doesn't change the fact that we pay a premium price (200€) to get a router with game oriented features and those are stall since january 2016.

There is other 1 person company like the people at consoletuner.com for the titan one and two stuff, yet they make firmware update almost weekly for both small bug fixes and feature requests.

He's rewriting the entire firmware from the ground up, stop being stupid now. When you can write your own router firmware then you have the right to complain about not getting updates fast enough for your liking. Nobody promised you X amount of updates in X amount of time when you bought this router. What did it promise? To give you everything that is in the current firmware.

you don't understand, you are definitely not worth any time.. get back to your copy paste posts..and oh don't forget to erase your sources as always..

That's why you always over-estimate and when you nail it before that date you look like a hero. If you happen to screw it up you are still arriving "on time".

Netduma devs shot them selves in the foot trying to generate marketing on twitter with fake "Fall release".

I will copy and paste facts until you read them because I think YOU are the one who doesn't understand. You paid a premium price for a router that does EXACTLY what it says it will do. What can your Netduma not do that RouterOS will enable it to do? Because my router works perfectly fine the way it is.

You still haven't answered my question, can you write a router firmware from the ground up by yourself? Yes or no?

can you build a car from the ground up by yourself ? yes or no ?

is you car functional ?

does you car manufacturers do 0 update to you In car Entertainment software  in 14 months?  you can replace car with 'iPhone', 'PS4','xbox', 'netflix' whatever..

once again i doubt you get my point. i'm not on some community based  software forum. i'm on a commercial company support forum asking for more detail about firmware update to something i paid for.

ps: and oh... yes i can certainly build a router from ground up myself using some linux as a based as i did already. Netduma used openwrt as a base too. now do i need to prove this to you ? no..

No I can't build a car, neither can you... Yes my car is functional and no I do not sit here calling the car manufacturers all day long demanding updates to my car. What you're trying to say makes no sense. You're comparing apples and oranges. Besides your list of other items you're trying to compare has hundreds or even thousands of people working on the software that runs them. Find me one other company that has a single person writing the code for the software that runs them, then try again to say I'm wrong.

You still failed to answer my question, can you CODE a router firmware with no help from anyone else? Yes or no? Notice, I did not say "build" a router... Which you certainly didn't do anyway, you simply bought a pre-built NUC PC and installed someone else's software on it. Then tweaked it to your liking.

Almost two years ago Iain said "which at this point is many 100k of lines of code" that he wrote, which was on top of the code from OpenWRT that their software was based on. I believe that number is much higher now that he is re-writing the entire firmware, plus adding new features.

Learn the write code first so at least you are qualified to do so and then tell another developer that they are taking too long to update THEIR software for free.

-snip-

I understand where you're coming from, been here since 2014. I agree the delays have got really bad but as Mod Box said, things like these are unpredictable and a lot of effort (especially for one guy) you'll just need to wait. If you're disappointed with your purchase feel free to post an honest review about it else just wait like everyone else.

I really don't get why everyone says the current OS is slow. Maybe your PC is just slow? I mean I even use a slow PC and it still seems normal to me as compared to most any other router. I've hardly had any issue with mine. The one that I had that I assumed was the netduma seemed to be wifi drop outs. But then I unchecked a setting under wifi in my phone that stopped having an aggressive handover to the cell phone towers. The problem has since stopped. As many have said the main issues that stem from the router are due to lack of proper setup. I don't even use geofilter and I still feel the benefits from the router. My only primary issue has been every once in a great while upnp will flake and give me a moderate NAT, but I reset upnp and I'm golden. The only actual issues I face are with my ISP, something the netduma has absolutely zero control over up till this point. We have to give netduma credit where credit is due and let them do their thing. I am no fanboy of the duma but I appreciate the amount of support that it has. It seems as though to many people are being really salty about an update? Yeah I want it to bit you know what it is what it is and as many have said before bitching about it does not release it any faster. It just makes for more unecessary toxicity to the forums. I think alot of people expect the netduma to do great things for their connection because otherwise with great connection have benefited the most from it. But you have to be realistic about it. You can't take a shot connection and make it godly with a router, you can remedy some things but at the end of the day when the packets leave your router it's all your ISP.

99% of the problems here are due to user error or an improper/incompatible setup. The example I always use is buying a race car and not knowing how to drive. Pointless. But people are idiots and listen to the "pros" on YouTube who say buy this it will be amazing! And expect a router to fix packet loss or a broken game.

I don't mind waiting. Better to have a stable release than a rushed build filled with annoying bugs.

BUT.. Don't make announces saying, "Beta mid feb" "Beta mid mars" etc.

Announce the beta date when you are 100% certain that you can deliver it on said date. No more, no less.

I believe what they said was "We then expect to launch an Open Beta in March"

EXPECT

EXPECT

considering at first it was possibly maybe "FALL" then possibly maybe "OPEN BETA in FEB" then possibly maybe "OPEN BETA in Mid MARCH" thats a lot of maybe's.

so maybe we can have some

RESPECT

and appreciate the feedback of "BUT.. Don't make announces saying, "Beta mid feb" "Beta mid mars" etc."

because to me there is no reason for you to pick apart his words when its his opinion.

It's honestly a losing battle for you so i would stop while i was ahead if were you. Since joining this forum all I've seen was you trying to be cool. Fact is, every one is annoyed due to the delay, only thing i'm really wanting from the new interface is to ger rid of the slow interface and make it a tad bit easier for the deny and allow list. But yeah stop being a dick. No one likes it.
