Xbox One DNS Effect?

Hi,

I have purchased a NETduma but i seem to still have problems with playing online with my xbox one.

I have 9MB down and 700KBPs up.

What i find odd is when you change the DNS address on the xbox one it can change how games play.

An example is battlefield 1 if i set the DNS to googles 8.8.8.8 then it seems to take more bullets to kill people but if i change it to talktalk DNS i can do more damage but my aiming seems slow.

I also bought the netduma to try and resolve my fifa issues. My players seem unresponsive and the game just feels slow. Any ideas???

My setup DM200 Netgear ADSL router/modem which is connected to the netduma.

Hey, welcome to the forum!

DNS will not affect your gaming experience so I believe this will be a placebo effect.

Please provide the screenshots from here and we can help optimise: http://support.netduma.com/support/solutions/articles/16000022425-lag-support-instructions-to-post-on-the-forum-

Thanks for the reply. I thought it might be a placebo effect.

Are you still getting bad gameplay? Fifa is generally quite difficult to optimise due to their net-coding, but the Fifa profile works in most cases for it. Let us know how your game feels, and what your ping in the game is :)

DNS (domain Name Resolution) literally means....

given Google.com, what is the the IP?

Depending on your router it can hold 1-10 DNS servers (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, etc)...

Some routers do a synchronous call,

ask 8.8.8.8...wait....nothing back?

ask 8.8.4.4...wait....216.58.192.142!

Yay, redirect the device asking for this record with 216.58.192.142.

Some do ASYNC

ask 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4....wait

first response 216.58.192.142

Yay, redirect the device asking for this record with 216.58.192.142.

In gaming, most homes don't have a domain name associated with them and those that do...xbox live doesn't know or care...

So the only thing you are increasing is the speed for browsing on the web browser on xbox...twitch app on xbox...

the xbox store load times...and maybe like party chat or dedicated server joining..

hope this is something helpful

peace!
