it is compared to what i pay(£7.50) for 80/20 package, over 8x what im paying now, but that is with a budget isp in Plusnet. I feel so tempted to go and get it, no other dsl isp has offered a connection targeted at gamers and streamers, they say "Your data will be given priority at the exchange over standard DSL traffic, thus delivering faster speeds, especially during peak times" they also say they have peering links to most gaming servers https://www.idnet.net/downloads/IDNet-Peering-List.pdf and the other bit of information all connections get put on the 80/20 profile even if your max line is 20/6, maybe there could be a benefit here.

Didn't notice that included line rental also you can reduce the price to 56 quid a month for a one year payment does look interesting anyone know if the Hauwei BT modems would work with this as we already have the duma.

Prolly see how duma os goes before thinking further as i'm currently out of contract with BT they have been pretty decent TBH.

Oooh sound kinda promising, nice spot the Redbull. Anyone manage to find any reviews of this floatig around anywhere? Would obviously like to hear the pro's and cons before even contemplating it. Although if it does what it says on the tin i may just be switching providers sooner rather than later.

I am just about to change over to idnet on adsl as that's all I can have currently.

Should go live tomorow so will let you know how it goes.the good news is there should be an announcement from fastershire on Wednesday so might be in line for Gigaclear.

It's basically plays the same now as before with bt

But I have a lot more bandwidth to play with now

So my bufferbloat tests are big improvement

Plus the family can stream,Facebook e.t.c.

One great tip I can give you is to have pingplotter running on a PC while you do a http://www.speedtest.netthen change congestion control until your ping stays in the green

That is a great tip, I'd would recommend over dslreports every time.

But 'green' is relative because you can set the parameters in the preferences for what ping is 'green' and I think by default it's up to 100ms (on the Mac version at least).

And spikes nearly reaching 100ms would obviously be no good if your base ping is really low, like 8ms.

What you want to do is set Ping Plotter running and then run a speedtest while your anti-flood is set at 100/100, then you will see how big the spikes can be without the anti-flood.

Then obviously adjust your sliders and run the speedtest again.

When you hit the point that the suppression is handling the buffer bloat spikes it will be obvious because they will be tiny compared to the unsuppressed ones from a minute before.

  • 6 months later...

idnet no longer offer the r1 in their hardware choices. thats a shame.

I believe its because of the issues it was having connecting via PPPoE. Everytime I restart my modem its a pain in the arse re-connecting. Takes forever. Hopefully the new update can sort this :)
