Hey guys

 

Just ordered my Netduma R1 and am patiently waiting for it to arrive... Ok maybe not patiently but you guys would understand?! Lol

 

I had some questions in regards to the R1

 

i) I have a Dlink DSL-2900AL modem/router. I have my PS4, computer, HTPC and Rasperry Pi2 connected via Ethernet and a plethora of iDevices all connected via the 5Ghz wifi. I would like to keep the iDevices connected to the 5Ghz band but was thinking of using the Netduma R1 on the PS4 Ethernet port only and enabling a DMZ for the R1 via the Dlink software. Is this ok or should I place the Dlink in bridging mode and rely on the R1 for all duties (Including the 2.4Ghz wifi)?

 

ii) my current internet is ADSL2+ with 7mb down/1mb up. Is there a configuration for my slow internet speed? I will be moving to NBN soon with 100mb down/40mb up but that won't be for another few months

 

If you got this far, thanks for reading and any input would be greatly appreciated! :D I can't wait to start using the R1. I'm a big fan of IW and sometimes get sick of having 5% great games and 95% poor games due to server issues :( hoping the R1 will solve these issues ;)

Personally I just use Modem to R1 and run everything off the R1.

I think you would be better served to make use of all the R1 features by using R1 as main router and your current one plugged into the r1 as a wifi access point.

Im sure somebody would be along soon to let you know how to do it if you want to go down that route. (or search the wiki there maybe some info in there)

Welcome to the forum.

 

To properly make use of the congestion control you would need all devices attached to the Netduma, otherwise when a device connected through the other router you can (WILL) get lag spikes.

 

I have mine set up like this...

 

ISP modem/router > Netduma (wifi disabled) > Asus RT-N66U (as wireless access point).

 

With this I get the best of both worlds, full congestion control and a 2.4+5ghz wifi network.

Hey, welcome to the forum! Glad to hear you're looking forward to getting it, and if the Netduma doesn't reduce your lag issues feel free to get help here. As the guys said above, sticking your other router on access point mode and connecting everything through the Netduma is the best way to go. The congestion control features are very much worth using, and eliminate lag caused by local congestion in a unique way; those features won't work properly unless everything is connected to the Netduma.

The best setup would be if you can put your dsl modem/router into bridge mode, then connect your R1 as the only device connected to the modem/router. This way you can use the congestion control features.

 

Since you only have 7down/1up using 5ghz really doesn't have much of a benefit since the R1 2.4ghz can hit almost 90mbps. The only thing 5ghz would get you is less congestion from 2.4ghz networks in your area which, if set to the right channel, can be a non-factor anyway.

Counting down for my Netduma to arrive, seems to take forever lol

 

I think I'll take your suggestions and place my modem/router in bridge mode and run everything off the Netduma. Luckily for me, I live with my girlfriend who doesn't download a whole lot just some general web surfing whilst I'm gaming so we should be good. If anything, I'll iust tell her to wait until I finish gaming or she can hotspot off her iPhone! ;)

Hopefully! Doesn't help that I live in Aus ;)

 

Are there any guides that I can read to optimise the Netduma for COD IW?

Seems like you're going to follow others advice which I would definitely recommend to make the most of the routers features.

 

For CoD I would recommend starting with ~1000km radius, strict on & ping assist 0 and see how you get on.

Lol! It's not that bad a game. I prefer it over CoD MWR

That's a very interesting comment as I prefer mwr in a massive way, strange how different connections consoles etc make fir different experiences, IW for me onnPS4 is pretty much unplayable, and has been since launch.

I've been playing mp cod since original MW so not a true vet but enough experience lol.

Yeah it is a game that takes some getting used to. Once you master the movement system, it is a very enjoyable game

I've been playing mp cod since original MW so not a true vet but enough experience lol.

I just haven't given MW:R enough time I think. Only played multi for about 1 hour. I hate all the campers and I'm finding the transition to not being able to boost jump quite hard. Maybe I just need to place more time in it!

I thought the Netduma would have helped with your IW experience?

It'll help with connections but not even the Netduma has the ability to make you enjoy a game that you don't like.

 

If it was that powerful, I'd have plugged my ex-girlfriend into it in the hope that it could suppress some of her evil.

Hahaha I can tell you now I know quite a few people that I wouldn't mind connecting to the Netduma if it did what you just said lol
