Bought HideMyAss.com vpn and it fails to work!

OK so I wanted open nat which other vpns do not provide with this router. I got it mainly for the vpn feature and the location search for playing FIFA. I bought hidemyass since it is 'integrated' and is the only vpn in the dropdown menu. Sadly it fails to connect unless I go out of my way to find a config and copy paste it into the advanced section (therefore I wasted 60$ for the membership since I already had a working vpn for this!) and lo and behold, its still moderate NAT! Netduma without vpn is open nat for me FYI.

Here is the output below (it cycles for a good 10 minutes like this but its a repetitive loop of errors someth ing about the signatures of the certificates probably just need to update them guys...)

so two questions

1. how do I fix this / will you guys patch this asap?

2. How can I get open nat with hidemyass to get my moneys worth from the vpn i bought soley for this router.

Thank you very much in advance I spent alot on this router and then more on the vpn so I'd appreciate help getting it to run as promised.

edit: redacted the ip addr for security... help me! Also why does it lag so much when I use a vpn with hidemyass? I can barely play. I have also been booted several times and taken losses which were not fair again part of the 2 reasons to buy this thing.

You will find it hard to find a VPN that will allow an open NAT. Your best bet is to get a gaming VPN that doesn't block the ports necessary for an open NAT.

It does sound like we need to update the HMA servers we can see, this will done in the new upgrade coming out this year. Use the config instead for now.

Will not be possible, you are adding an extra barrier which will make it harder to get an open NAT, they're likely blocking these ports as they're not a gaming VPN and are unlikely to open them even if you ask.

Using a VPN will always add additional latency, would never recommend playing through it if possible and if necessary then choosing the closest server to limit added latency.

Really I would not recommend using a VPN for gaming through unless absolutely necessary (i.e. you get DDoSed a lot etc)

You could have chosen ExpressVPN, PureVPN, PIA, Ivacy, or a few good ones. You have plenty of options. HMA used to be the leader but it is not anymore!

Hey, welcome to the forum. We originally chose HMA as well because they used to have a trial option. We'll update with new providers in the new upgrade.

Hey guys thanks for the feedback. Glad my comment was not taken too harshly as I love the product otherwise!

-Yes I get ddosed alot. I dont know why but the FIFA (a football game) community is full of cheaters who often win by dos'ing the opponent and/or gain an advantage by sending malicious packets whenever they lose the ball which makes the game slow down and then go into overdrive speed (3x normal or something) when they get the ball back. Alot of call of duty cheaters who like soccer come on fifa and cheat in this manner no clue why.

-I am aware hma sucks, they really are terrible. no privacy (they ratted on that lulzsec guy) and speeds are complete garbage (half their servers dont even work!).

-as for gaming vpns which one is the absolute fastest/best for USA customers who play a game thats strictly peer-to-peer as fifa is (usually 1v1 but I also play 2v2 and teams like 11v11)?

thanks for the help so far. Also if anyone knows how to get the ports open thatd be swell. I have tried in the past with no success.

Console in Xbox One by the way, and the NAT is 100% open without the vpn but with any vpn (ive tried pia and 3 other prividers including airvpn who offer 'port forwarding' and it still didn't open.

Edit: Ok im doing a trial of expressvpn and its great so far...100x better than HMa. I honestly wish HMA would refund me for my 50$ or a year since I only used it for 3 days... if you guys could boot them from the netduma settings that'd be legit so as not to make people like me assume itll work perfectly with the router.

expressvpn is only giving me like 5mbps up and down on my 125mbps duplex line, (yes im wired not wifi) so thats quite bad. However for gaming latency is king as we know and a FIFA game hardly uses more than 10MB of data. I have yet to test extensively but so far so good. Its a 30 day money back guarntee also which hma scammers dont offer. If someone knows the #1 USA facing vpn for games please let me know. Someone recommended PIA and I will say privateinternetaccess offers godly speeds for a vpn. I would lay some big wagers that they are owned by the NSA or something but for gaming I may seriously consider it if someone can vouch for the latency... just for comparison sake pia maxed out my 125mbit/s pipeline for usenet and other fast hosts.

The VPN feature can only support around ~10mbps, there was a limitation on this but we'll see if we can increase that throughput as well as add new providers to the list. I would search for gaming VPNs, the only one I've personally tried is VyprVPN.

Actually pia is located in Michigan lol. Google VPNs they are the best and they keep nothing about the user at all and update you when security issues happen. Customer service is awesome too. Max dl I've seen is like 10 Meg on pia. Not that It matters. Mainly use for surfing. Gotta remember pia also uses extreme encryption. Even if u could get low ping. You will have encrypted delay when gaming. They do have lowest ping vs vyper and expressvpn.
