Bridging routers

Ok so i just bought a r8000 nighthawk and am considering getting a net duma for my xbox one.

 

My question is,

 

I have shaw internet 100mb down 10 up and they gave me a router/ modem combo. Its not really good so i had them bridge my nighthawk to be the primary router.  Now i would like to keep the night hawk for all the wifi stuff going on in my house (3 kids and a wife, sometimes up to 12 things streaming at once. ipads, computers, phones, tvs..ect) and the hawk dose great at keeping up with no buffering or lag.  My xbox is directly plugged into the hawk, set to prioroty.  I am not sure if plugging the duma into the hawk or vise versa is going to fracture my connection to terriably to not be worth getting a duma.  i would only have my xbox one and maybe ps4 hooked up to it and let the hawk handle the rest.

Thanks for considering purchasing the router. Personally I'd recommend this set up:

 

Wall <-> Modem <-> R1 <-> Nighthawk(access point mode)

 

Can the night hawk be turned into an access point or have bridge mode? I'd recommend this so you get all the features of the Netduma while retaining the wireless of the Nighthawk(since you mentioned you preferred that). 

 

A few other people are planning on having that setup, maybe you should wait till they get their routers and see their comments on it. I know for sure at least one person, Scott will be doing this. I've just linked him this thread, so he can comment when gets it.

As Iain already suggested, I would have your modem/router combo your ISP provided, in bridge mode. Then connect it to the Netduma router, and run your nighthawk in AP mode, connected to the Netduma router via one of it's LAN ports. This is all based off what you posted, as it seems you will just being using the nighthawk for it's wireless. So running it in AP mode fits what you need perfectly.

 

My setup will be a lot like what me, and Iain suggested as well, when I get my netduma soon.

Modem <-> Netduma <-> Asus AC87R

 

I will have the Netduma doing all the normal thing's a router provides. My current router will be run in AP mode providing 5ghz wireless, and possibly 2.4ghz as well. Plus I will use it to run my usb3 hdd using samba share. If you're buying a netduma to better your gaming, it's best to have it running all your primary router features. As putting a secondary router in AP mode, to provide wireless is a simple option.

If you are talking about buying a netduma router, you buy it from there Netduma site. However they're currently out of stock, and it will be 1-2 weeks before more stock is available, sadly.
